Looking to move futures (we have them) for either scoring or d-acumen in the top 6, in order to end this miserable drought.

Who's out there?
Buffalo and Calgary continue to be great trading partners. Take your pick between Coleman (more goals), and Backlund (centre). Coleman is probably more ideal for a top 6 role than Backlund, but both dominate their competition 5v5. Backlund can come with retention, likely not Coleman though.

You honestly think the Flames are trading Backlund or Coleman? This is the Calgary Flames we are talking about. I honestly can’t remember the last time this team traded a non upcoming UFA, Sam Bennett I guess who asked for a trade and who had been horrendously undervalued.

Mantha or Kuzmenko could be available. But even then I think this team has no desire to properly rebuild.

Marner if he would agree to an extension in Buffalo. Don't know what the pieces would be coming from Buffalo but he's likely to sign if he's closer to home.

Do you guys want physical players like in previous years? Not sure if a cheap defensive stopper who would help (since you guys are #3 in GF and #4 in GA) would be available without breaking the bank... who's available from your team??

Jacob Markstrom this offseason? Short memory I guess. Calgary is openly looking to add a young centre. Backlund is 35. Who do you think that young centre is replacing?

Those two are our smartest players to move on from. We won’t be trying to win a cup for the next 2-3 seasons, Backlund will be 38 and Coleman will be 35 by that time.

Backlund needs to want to go to Buffalo (NMC)

Calgary retaining on a non expiring contract? Unlikely.

Buffalo really needs a #2C. Most the fan base seem to believe Cozens is a winger. They should probably look past Coleman from a needs standpoint unless they also address the 2C first.

Calgary already traded a non expiring contract with retention just this last off-season, you are the second straight person to weirdly forget this trade happened. We likely won’t be a cap team next year, so if it raises the value of the deal by retaining Calgary will do it.

Josh Anderson from the Habs maybe a new team no pressure could be a good option. The value is pretty low.

Anderson ans Farrell for Krebs and a 4th round pick?

Anderson would need heavy retention or the team trading for him would need to be very incentivized . Krebs breakout is still coming

so what 90% of the teams in the league want lol?
Bingo, which Is why it prob won't not happen and we need to unf*** Dylan.

They bet on the sexy young guy in Cozens, when they should have bet on the guy that played great as a centre already. Anyway as an Av's fan, thank you.
I'd still make that trade, Byram's impact has been huge. Casey worked out great for COL.

Completely disagree with this. We will attempt to move Kadri before we move Backlund or Coleman. Yes we want young centers and yes that is something Buffalo has a lot of, that does not mean it makes sense to move our 2 best mentor figures. Also Backlund has a full NMC and has played his full career in Calgary, the odds of him waiving anywhere this season are next to zero. Coleman has a 22 team no trade list and it's a pretty safe bet that Buffalo is on it

Calgary will more than likely ride Backlund's contract out and replace him at center with a young prospect afterwards

SJ:s Granlund at 5M. UFA 2025 and been almost ppg on the shittiest team in the league. 200ft C or W. Plays PP and PK. Swiss army knife.
This poster understood the assignment, that's a fitting suggestion.
Not sure how well Granlund would work in Ruff's system which relies on speed and short high intensity shifts, though.
What would be the ask from San Jose?

A lot of that is more opinion based than fact based. Backlund will be 36 before the end of this season, and has never won a cup. He’s also the much more moveable asset with 2 years at a lower salary remaining than Kadri’s 4 years taking him to the age of 38. In terms of value we could get back, Backlund is probably the guy and he’s also likely the player who’d want to go cup hunting before he retires. Now while that probably precludes a Buffalo deal (we never know, players can be pretty bad when it comes to betting on winning teams), I think realistically he gets moved instead of us just letting him walk. You seem to agree he probably walks, and Conroy outright said he wanted to stop letting players walk for free. It’s also weird you don’t include Kadri as a mentor figure, considering now all of Zary, Pospisil, and Honzek have been brought into the league on his line.

Back on topic though, Backlund is a great addition. Over the previous 3 seasons, he has a 56.32 xGF%, and 54.89 GF% on a team that’s been bad the majority of that time. He’s also a large reason why Calgary had the 4th best PK over that stretch. If you want a guy who will instantly make any line strong defensively and have fantastic 5v5 results, he’s your guy.
