I’d be curious if I’m totally out on an island on my own or if there are others that pretty much ignore references to xGF% and other adv stats. I really don’t care what a stat says about “expected”, more interested in what you actually produce goals. I feel like I’m allergic to it as some of the stats annoy me probably more than they should
I'm not a huge advanced stat person, but I do acknowledge that they can be useful.
Will agree with you that what players actually do or don't do is much more important than the 'expected' thing.
Also, stats that measure when a player is doing something way above, or way below, people tend to say they aren't as good (if way above), or not as bad (when way below).
Sure, things even out over time, but maybe, just maybe, that player is having a career year, and maybe he has another next year too, before returning to the pedestrian stuff he always had on year 3.
But the bottom line is, he is lights out NOW, and what he does on the ice shows it...."expected" stats be damned.
If taken within context, and case by case, adv stats are very useful...as the be all, end all in measuring. Nope.
As for the lines, homer pick, but Point flanked by Kucherov and Guentzel has to be up there with the very best in the league.
