Value of: Tony Deangelo's Next Contract

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

He's uhh... he's playing real well. Playing 24 minutes a night, has been far better than advertised defensively (but still not good), and is scoring at a 50 point clip on a team with a generationally bad power play. Probably would be on pace for 60 on 3/4 other teams. According to this link he's the top impending FA defenseman in PPG.

If I started the year in Russia and got to come home to play 24 mins a night for a team 2 hours from my family, I'm probably sticking around... especially with the volatile track record. All reports are fine from the locker room. My guess is he stays on LI for under 2M a year. But does anyone think their team would go big after him? Big might mean like 3x3 in this case. It's an interesting situation

If he's smart (debatable) he takes that 3x3 in Long Island and lives a nice happy life doing his thing. He is not the type of player that does well moving from situation to situation.

I wouldn’t mind brining him back but I’m not giving him more than 2 years (1 would be ideal) and definitely not giving him crazy money

He's a good player. I've always said that.

Yes, he's terrible defensively. Let's be real, 90% of the guys on bottom pairs around the league are terrible defensively.

There's some reason employers get tired of him, and I know for a fact on at least one team, the reason wasn't defense.

Maybe he's finally more zen now. We'll see what happens.

He really is bad defensively. That said he's a skilled offensive player and if you can do what Carolina did with him---give him a premier defensive player like Slavin to pair with you could get a good result out of him. HIs other issue is he wears out his welcome eventually and more often than not it doesn't take long so I definitely wouldn't want to give him more than a couple years at most and one year would be ideal.

Tony by the way is not much of a physical player. He doesn't hit much and he's very often outmuscled in battles. For his size though he fights pretty well though you wouldn't want him taking on a guy who knows how to fight who is much bigger than he is. He can beat bigger players though if they're not very good and usually more than hold his own against guys around the same size as he is. He's also kind of yappy

If I'm TDA, after everything he's been through, I'm prioritizing years and clauses over dollars so I control my destiny on where I am playing longer-term.

Being a journeyman kind of sucks, in my estimation.

He's pretty bad, and he gets outmuscled consistently. But when he gets the puck in the D-zone he typically gets it out. He hasn't been as aggressive offensively as I thought he'd be. But if one of your pet peeves, like me, is guys who don't get their feet moving with their heads up and make smart passes, it's a relief to see him out there instead of, say, Scott Mayfield.

What's been a bit surprising has been his demeanor. He really hasn't been emotional. For sure he's playing too much, and he gets exposed against good players. But that's not really his fault. It's probably helped him a lot to be paired with a happy warrior like Romanov - the kind of guy who competes with a smile on his face.
