we are paying marc staal and brendan smith 10 MILLION per year.

let that sink in for a moment.

we are offering ADA 925k ??? really

we cant find 500k for a 24 yr old 2nd pair righty pmd who had phenomenal numbers for the last part of the 18-19 season ???

"DeAngelo posted a team-best 6.1 even strength goals-above-replacement in his 61 games played this past season. Despite the small sample size and limited role, DeAngelo quickly emerged into the Rangers’ most effective offensive d-man".

DeAngelo excelled as a power-play specialist. He logged a GAR of 1.2 on the man advantage, second only to Pionk with his GAR of 3.2 on the power play. DeAngelo was the only Rangers defenseman to have a positive GAR at even strength, power play, and shorthanded. He led the blue line in both overall GAR with 7.7 and a wins above replacement of 1.4.

DeAngelo also led the Rangers’ blue line in total points, offensive point shares, and overall point shares this past season. He logged 21 of his 30 points in the final 35 games of the season after an extended trip to the Quinn bin as a healthy scratch. His 16 assists at even strength were tied with Brady Skjei for the team lead among defenseman.

Where are we finding this extra space from? A trade would have happened already but it obviously hasn't. Staal and Smith are irrelevant when it comes down to ADA's contract. The kid needs to sign his offer and have a good season. We'll have more cap space next season and he can negotiate an extension then.

This isn't rocket science.

Teams dont sign middling RFAs to non-compensation offer sheets. Its literally never happened so it not happening with ADA doesn't really mean anything.

I know squat about offer sheets but it has happened at least once according to wikipedia.

there will be no offer sheet.

they will work something out im sure..

offers sheets for players like ADA dont happen
I hope you're right.

If any team is going to give ADA an offer sheet, it won't be until after the season starts.
If I'm the Jets I offer $1.3 million because you stole Trouba and stuck us with Pionk.

What we are paying Staal and Smith has no relevance to what ADA makes. Both were paid as UFAs. ADA is a non-arbitration eligible RFA.

Staal got a good deal after his ELC, but he actually deserved it. It was a 5 year deal at $3,975,000 per year. There's no way in hell ADA will get anything close to that. No team is giving him 5 years with his history.

Smith got a 2 year deal at $1,262,500 per year. He had to wait to get paid, but for some reason, ADA shouldn't?

And no, we can't find 500k for him, regardless of who he is and what he has done. Where is the money coming from? Don't say we trade someone, because the trades aren't there. If they were, they'd already be done.

ODC, I'm not sure anyone would disagree that ADA is more talented than his qualifying offer would suggest.

well then @Crease, how can we be upset that he and his camp haven't agreed to that offer ?

just sign it and play hard isnt really fair nor is it in his best interests either.

its the NYR that have him in this precarious spot.

hes being cornered with a low ball offer. you think he wants to sit out ?

the offer needs to be sweetened so face can be saved and a valuable piece can be reinserted into the lineup.

His beef should be with the players association and himself if he voted for the latest CBA (prob wasn’t a pro yet) and no we can’t find 500k unless we move someone. He has a right not to show up as well as find another line of work or place of employment. My philosophical issue is that contracts don’t mean anything anymore if one abides by the parts favorable for them and dismisses the parts that may not be. That being said, hope he shows up and makes us better.

I'm not upset. I think what he's doing is stupid and if he were my client I would tell him life is unfair and to sign the deal before he gets blacklisted from the NHL.

i would agree with you that those things are true. he should sign a deal maybe even this deal and get to work. it would be a shame if this is how his nyr career ends. over 500k

however, this is a business and his team is obviously advising him to decline and further attempt to extract a better offer.

its more likely he signs than sits out.

I just don't get why this is so hard to understand!

Would a literal pie chart help? The pie has been eaten, there's like a bite and a half left... he can eat that bite or he can starve.

THERE'S NO MORE PIE FOR HIM

the pie may be cut and served but until its all eaten, theres always a chance he gets more from someone elses cut of the pie.

2 @3 would seem both reasonable and doable with some jostling by JG.
There is a market discount that needs to be applied given the fact that he was scratched for issues for a quarter of a season.

And please tell me how you are signing him for that much money? How is that doable?

He did play well when given the opportunity is all I know. At 23 years of age, the only reason I can see the Rangers playing hardball is b/c they have so much confidence in the other young defenders long term.
Or they want to see if what he was down the stretch is now more representative of what he is. That goes for on ice and maturity.
Certainly, Tony D today is better than some of these stiffs on defense including Marc Staal.
That's fine, but a pointless comparison as they play on two different sides of the ice.

Tony's Instagram story says "Happy birthday [friend]. Last skate together till next summer"

Maybe cause he's gonna start skating with the team :crossfing

I think his buddy Huffnagle might be heading to Oswego College since their season starts in about a month.

You don't have to agree, but it's not nonsense.

Things are worth what people will pay for them. Any other team can pay Tony more – it'd cost an extra third or maybe nothing extra depending on the contract. They're not willing to do that. Whether it happens or doesn't, the fact is it's possible and they're closing not to.

I'm not trying to be a dick, I just dont see how something that has never happened can be used as evidence of anything. Sure RFAs probably should be signed by competitors frequently but they're not, and guys like ADA are never signed. It just doesn't happen.

When? Ron Tugnutt in 1996? Does signing a veteran goalie over a decade before the cap era count?
