Prospect Info: Tom Willander: 11th Overall 2023 Draft (Rogle BK J20) - Part 02

I could never understand anybody getting too pumped up over Mittelstadt. He's now on his third NHL team in Boston.....and didn't do much for them late in the season.

He finished the season with 15 goals and 25 assists. But his contract of $5.750 million doesn't expire until the end of the 2026-27 season. So it might be a contract the Bruins want to get out of from under.

But would Mittelstadt help the Canucks all that much?. Seems like a bit of a perimeter player to me.
He's another 3 line center that we have enough of.

Ya. He was set up for success in Colorado and pretty much fell on his face.

The centre market sucks and, unless an unexpected player becomes available or the Canucks drastically overpay, players like Mittelstadt will be in the range of what we should expect.

He has high end skill. Everyone wants to buy low, but many can't seem to tolerate the low @now aspect of it. He's at an age where he can still break out with his underlying abilities. Not saying that Casey is necessarily the right target, but I have always liked his skill. Whoever we target it should probably be a relatively young, somewhat distressed asset who has breakout potential.

Musty + Ottawa's 2nd for Willander
Not a center but, a future Boeser replacement.
Hard no as Willander is someone the Canucks should not be trading and while I think Musty might turn out to be fine NHLer he also ahs bust potential IMO.

Dhaliwal (a reliable shill for agents everywhere!) started tweeting abut signing Willander "not being simple" before his season at BU was even over. He hyperventilates about it every time he's on someone's podcast. The vast majority of posters on this site are now agitated that management hasn't just given him max bonuses. It would take impressive obliviousness not to see the positive correlation....IMO.

To be fair, Dhaliwal hyperventilates about everything. He probably hyperventilated when someone took his coffee out of the microwave this morning. It's what he does.

"this is a disaster" hahahaha

the media is so tiring, obviously the agent is going to Dhaliwal to fan the flames.
If we are offering market rate to Willander and they are asking for more and we are unwilling to above market, that is more of a "agent and client playing hard ball" vs "canucks not going for the easy layup".

I am sure there are fans are on the, do whatever it takes to get the kid signed but I don't think it's really an issue considering management is operating principally. You don't want management to be known around the league to be pushovers because of bad PR. that will just end up biting us in the ass when it comes to RFAs and future prospects

I'm so tired of this shill.

Its not "evil canuck media stirring things up", its willing media working with agents to work against team cap structure. In a cap free world fine, why do I care if the owner pays through his nose? Its not. So if all of Dhaliwhal's sources gets their way, you'll have a team with bloated contracts and non competitive. Team is doing the right thing here, its too bad they have this guy focused on this market who is a willing mouthpiece for Diamond and his ilk.

I don't blame him, gotta keep the sources happy

I think Slick Rick is doing what he has to do to stay in the game; I just find it funny when people freak out because of it.

like I get our ownership group is full of total worm dicks, but the idea we're lowballing our most important prospect is tardy. We didn't with Lekkerimaki, and we aren't doing it now.

Equally tardy is the idea Willander is going to forgo the quickest and most lucrative path to an NHL career over bonuses the vast majority of kids in his situation wouldn't ask for.

it's likely that the agent is trying to use the media to pressure management to give in and then use that as a precedent for other prospects at the range. if management doesn't give in, i don't see Diamond playing with fire and getting Willander to miss 1 whole year worth of NHL pay.
