Still saying that the team is keeping as much flexibility as possible before the draft. I'd say it may have creeped up above 50/50 that his rights will be traded at or before the draft. I know it's not a strong rationale but it makes more sense to me than arguing over $200K with a cap of $95M.

by the sounds of it, he wants the same as what Minny gave Buium 1M but Van offered 750K because that's what most others have gotten being picked at that spot in recent years.
Yeah those numbers are probably reasonably close. And i think there's a solution here and he'll end up signing, there's just no real urgency for either side to move off their numbers in the short term (before the new league year begins) . NHL season is over, seems like he'd rather play with the national team than in Abbotsford...so no hurry.

I think the only reason to worry would be if he decides not to come to development camp.

But if that's the case, why not just sign him and then deal him? Signed, Wilander becomes a de-risked, and therefore more valuable, trade piece, no?

If he declines camp, I'm sure the week before he will be traded. Similar to Gauthier for Drysdale.

We’re really squabbling with schedule A bonuses lmao. Just f***ing sign him you f***ing dorks.
it's the only material part of an ELC to negotiate (for a rd 1 pick) , so yeah....that's what it's about. He'll come to development camp, look great...and probably sign his contract. It's the logical place to do it. he can do a big media availability when they announce it. They can give him his signing bonus and maybe he'll even stick around to work out locally.

I really want to see Tom playing on the Canucks blueline. I think he's going to be a fantastic player to follow.

No idea why this contract has been so difficult. Seems wildly unnecessary.
if trade is the only route to replace Miller, then the only piece others want for an established 2C will likely be Willander. I personally believe he will be likely be a Stralman/Brodin, a ceiling of McAvoy/Faber. that is a significant price to pay.

Likely looking at a trade like Fiala for Faber, lets hope its not a Niewendyk for Iginla, Erat for Forsberg type scenario.

Then you get him signed so the college escape plan is not something the team he is traded to needs to worry about.

yeah, this holdup is ridiculous.
it isn't really. Once the Canucks missed the playoffs and both sides agreed that any deal reached would start on July 1st when the 25/26 league year begins the timeline changed. There is no longer any urgency to get something done. Willander can train with the national team and potentially go to the Worlds in May. Nothing stopping both parties from getting the contract done in late June when he comes to town.

I get that, which is why I said it wasn't a strong argument. The flip side is the signing team gets input either in a sign and trade or trade and sign into what the A bonuses are. More significantly but no longer really relevant, is that the year wasn't burned off the ELC. Locking in the 3 year ELC starting next year definitely increased his trade value.

They didnt agree on that but now its too late for anything else.

Damn he is going to have a great career. Hopefully as a Nuick.

but one of Willander EP2 Mancini KK or Mynio is going to be part of a package to get some forward whelp.

I hope like hell we keep Will EP2 and Mancini. I truly believe they are worth more than what they will return.
The problem is other than Willander and EP2, the other prospects aren't worth much. Trading them won't get you anything that moves the needle up front, if they are the main piece of a package.

That is why trading Willander seems logical, he should return a player that is either currently a 2C, or a younger player that can develop into one. It would suck to have to trade TW, I think he will be a very good player, but you have to give something to get something.

I much rather trade the 2025 1st rounder, or the 2026 1st rounder with protection, then trade TW. But I can see TW carrying more value at this point.

They wouldn't be the main part of the trade... most likely the first is.

It is rare a propsect like Willander gets traded for a player. Its not like it never happens, but it is rare.
