Prospect Info: Tom Willander: 11th Overall 2023 Draft (Rogle BK J20) - Part 02

Just no. The odds of your scenario working out are very low.
I have an honest question but why low, which part?
Willander will be a longtime Canuck. His ceiling is what you want for every elite defense corp. Speed, hockey sense, skating, RHD with maturity, he can play physical too.

I dont know if EP(D) is really an Edler clone yet, I will be willing to move him 3 times before I trade Willander, who is looking like the best 2 way D out of the 2023 draft so far.
Willander will probably sign, he hasn't yet. But will Tocchet even play him without seeing what he is against pro players? Every guy in the AHL is better than any/most players Willander faces now.

This market is the only market he is getting any notice. Seems pretty vanilla.

Ryan Leonard is better than anybody in the AHL

So his season is over. No reason to talk about "trading him". Let's look and see what we've got, the Canucks can sign him anytime now.

Hopefully they sign him tomorrow. Get him over here now, give some practice time, and either play him in Vancouver or Abby. Though don't want him getting gooned in Abby.

It's a catch 22 though. If he looks good, don't trade him. If he doesn't look, don't trade him because his value will be low.

But he absolutely needs to get here so that Tocchet can get a serious look at him. We have EP2 Mancini and Forbert fighting for the 5 - 6th spots. Willander will make that even more difficult.

As I have stated before, We hav Hronek Hughes MP as an incredible top 3. Meyers is playing just fine with them. EP2 looks like he will have a great career as a 4 - 5 shut down D man. Mancini looks decent so far, not sure if he will be a top 4, or a decent 6 -7.

And all this with Mynio and KK in the wings as well.

This might be a better D core than our 2011 group, and they were great.

We won't know if his season is over until Sunday when the tournament selection happens. BU has a legit shot at getting an at large bid for the tournament given they are 7th in the pairwise rankings.

This confused me as well. Here's a reddit thread with the best explanation I found on how selection and the bracket works: Reddit thread

Here's a link to a Pairwise Ranking tracker.
So a quick search gave this:

Yes, Boston University's (BU) men's ice hockey team is finished for the year, as they were defeated by UConn in the Hockey East semifinals on March 21, 2025.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

  • Hockey East Semifinal Loss:
BU lost to UConn 5-2 in the Hockey East semifinals on March 21, 2025, at the TD Garden.
  • End of Season:
This loss means BU's season is over, as they were eliminated from the Hockey East tournament and the NCAA tournament.

  • UConn Advances:
UConn advances to the Hockey East title game for the second time, after defeating BU.

As I said earlier, his hockey season is over. Not sure what others are talking about about.

A bit confusing i know but unfortunately that's not the case.

Boston University is heading to the semifinals in the Hockey East Playoffs after an overtime win on Saturday over the University of Massachusetts. That game will take place on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. PST, but even if the Terriers lose to the University of Connecticut and are eliminated from the Hockey East Playoffs, that doesn't mean their season is over.

The NCAA national tournament, which culminates in the Frozen Four, involves 16 teams. The six conference champions, including the winner of the Hockey East Playoffs, will earn an automatic berth, but the remaining ten teams will be selected for the tournament on March 23. Given their record and place in the PairWise rankings, Boston University is a lock to be selected.

The national tournament kicks off with two rounds of regional play from March 27-30. The tournament is single-elimination, so Willander's season could end as early as March 27, making him available to sign with the Canucks as early as March 28, when the Canucks face the Columbus Blue Jackets on their current road trip. More realistically, March 31 or April 1 would be the dates to watch out for a Willander signing, at which point eight games would be remaining in the Canucks' season.
