Its behind a paywall, but Drance said the issue is the Schedule A bonuses.
Interesting. there are 10 schedule "A" bonuses. If he hits 4 of them, it's a $1M bill. Maybe they agree on a max of say $600K? Are they allowed to do that. Anyone know? I mean, he is not supposed to be an offensive D man, so he probably doesn't make points ones. Really don't understand why this should be a sticking point for their top prospect right now.

If they're really doing this to their top prospect, how pathetic of Rutherford and Allvin. These 2 have really lost so much grave in my eyes this season.

Holy crap do the Canucks looked stacked on D. KK playing seamlessly right now. He looks just fine.

So we have Hughes Hronek Myers MP Ep2 Forbert and Mancini right now, and KK looking legit. And Juulsen. And our top prospect in Willander looking to be top 4. Something has to give. That is 10 NHL caliber D men right now. And Mynio is only a year or so away. We should be able to fix our need for two top 6 Forwards, one being a centre, with something like Mancini and SJ 3rd for a decent centre , and KK and our 2nd for a very solid winger.

My cousins, uncle has a neighbor whose sons gf is a good friend of a friend of a friend of his and they heard that the Canucks are playing hardball.........

Yeah pretty much zero evidence of this ........Common sense would dictate that the kid simply wants to finish his studies and will sign at some point this offseason.
I can confirm this. My neighbours nephew works at a pet store, and recently sold some goldfish to Mat Barkowskis cousin who used to know Tom Wilanders pen pal from East Ladner, and basically said the Canucks almost for sure might be playing hardball. So theres that...

Hang on, hang on, do you also live close to his pen pal in East Ladner? I mean coming up with East Ladner is a random place to be from. We are basically neighbours... I feel honoured to breathe the same air as the great M2B, in my own neutral kind of way, of course

Drance is media and they create clickbait for views/listeners. It’s literally their job to stir the pot in a Hockey crazed city. His producer is probably reading this comment laughing.

I can see Willander starting in the ahl if forbort returns. Ep25 might stay on the right side and hronek and Myers will play the other rs spots. Mancini makes a better press box filler.

Would solve the bonus problem.

CONFIRMED!

I am not buying it without confirmation from the bbq salesman.

I mean it's not a big national story, why put his credibility on the line for something so minor? Literally an hour later they could've signed him... Then what?

Drance has a decent rep when it comes to not making things up.

Drance does that with his hockey takes, not his reporting.

At his age Mancini is better off playing than sitting. He turns 23 in May. Not until he gets into the Biega age range (at the time) should he be used as a spare guy.

He's better off being a call up and playing ahead of the spare guy.

I suspect he would rather play pro in Sweden than in the AHL. He would be at home and get paid more. I am pretty sure if they sign him they will play him in Vancouver.

Trying to pretend this is not a story is a bit of copium... these guys normally sign pretty much right away. "Focusing on studies" instead of taking 2 minutes to tell his agent advisor "sure, let's sign that" would be weird. It's a minimum of effort if nothing unusual is going on. Which suggests that at least something unusual is going on. Drance has reported what he understands it to be -- Occam's razor suggests that's probably what it is.

Majority of high first rounders prefer not playing in the A. I'm sure Rutger didn't want to play in WBS, but that's where he spent most of his season. 39 points in 60 games in the A, would indicate that was the level he was supposed to be at this season.

I think TW could play in the NHL next season. Only question i have is whether he has the puck skills to contribute or whether he would be better served developing that more in the A vs not get much chance to do that behind Quinn and Hronek up here.

What are the odds he's signed before next season starts? Seriously? Probably 80-90% at minimum.......I know many fans are conditioned to expect the worse but really. .........until we have a reliable news source here RELAX EVERYONE.........things are gonna be ok

Him not signing is nothing but pure speculation from the disaster mongers.

This sequence of posts is hilarious.

Side note, the moment anyone uses “copium” whatever they are trying to say is invalid. It’s just such a shitty and dismissive thing to say.

The point is, no one is saying "he's not going to sign!" It is not disaster-mongering to note that it's a bit unusual that it wasn't done quickly, as it almost always is. Drance explained what he understands the hold-up to be, and is met here with "Drance is making things up for clicks!"

What else do you call that? Who is actually scare-mongering there?

I thin ASP's schedule A bonuses might be $500K? He was drafted later so $600K max sounds reasonable

Patrick Johnston saying the same thing, by the way – they are holding steadfast to their position on bonuses. Sure doesn't sound "made up", and it is 100% reasonable to raise an eyebrow at the team nickel-and-diming their top unsigned prospect like this.

Also, the timing of this does matter because many held out hopes he would be with Abbotsford for their playoffs, which is seeming less and less likely.
