I can't say he didn't earn it but I wonder how much Bob helped him earn this extension??

I would have waited to see if he could make the playoffs twice in a row... If Bob falls apart and the Jackets miss the playoffs next season he will be fired..

Todd Richards is not that good imo folks but I've been wrong before, roughly around 15% of the time as far as the CBJ are concerned...

I disagree. If the game plan was to fire him if they miss next year, why bother extending him already? It's a waste of money. If that was the plan, I think they wouldn't have extended him this past week and not renewed his contract had they missed. But since they did extend him, if they miss, I think he gets another season to redeem himself. Not sure how long he has though. It could be like Philly and he gets fired after a couple of games.
O/T, if Bob falls apart, the interesting part is his contract ends. What does he get? Does management stick with him?

This is about the relationship between Richards and the front office:

http://bluejacketsxtra.dispatch.com/content/blogs/puck-rakers/2014/05/all-together-now.html

I found this to be interesting:

" ... I evaluate the coaches to some extent the same way I evaluate the players, just by interacting with them," Kekalainen said. "Often (Ricahrds) and I start our day by having a coffee and talking about last night's game, or the previous practice, and we go up and down the lineup with who's playing well and who isn't.

"Right from the start when I came here, I tried to do that with Todd and the rest of the coaching staff, just interacting with them everyday and finding out what they're doing and what their habits are, what kind of people they are."

I've often wondered how closely the GM and coaches work during the day to day operations.

Weird. I would have pegged JK as a green tea kind of guy

Oh. I suppose Richards and Ian Clark, a Richards staffman, haven't done anything to help Bob earn his Vezina.

Coaches rarely ever coach under 'lame duck' years. They need stability too.

My favorite of the 15% (Its much higher, as is most of ours) was the Boone Jenner thing

Technically, Robert is still correct in what he said about Boone

He doesn't have to be good, he just has to be the right coach for the guys they have. The unemployment line is full of good coaches as well as bad. The important thing is always the mix. They have something good going - I could care less that he doesn't have the panache of someone like Torts or Bylsma.

Bob's performance is integral to anything with the team. Of course Richards owes success to Bob as much as any other player who's played well. What a nonsensical statement to make. If you really boil it down, he could owe as much to McKenna and McElhinney as he does Bob for them treading water at a vital time this past season.

On the suggestion that he loses his job if they miss the playoffs, care to make it interesting?

This is it for me. His coaching career isn't spectacular but I think his system mixes well with the players. Good mix of physical play with good skaters and scorers.

Oh, new jackets fan here btw! Jackets are looking solid!
