Todd McLellan Fired; Jim Hiller Interim LAK HC

Sucks I liked Koala. Don’t think he was the problem. But it had to be done. Because we can’t fire PLD.
Can you though?? I’d send PLD home for the rest of the year and tell him to contemplate his hockey future. Nothing else has got this POS motivated.

Doubt this changes anything.

Blake was the one who convinced Todd to play a 1-3-1. He’s built the entire organizational philosophy around the 1-3-1 system. I’d be shocked if Hiller runs a different system.

Ah, yes. I actually forgot Todd McLellan was the highest paid head coach in the league for a while there. Other than Babcock with the Leafs, who wasn’t active.

There were also a couple of coaches that didn’t have their salaries publicly known or listed on cap friendly, but I do remember him being the highest paid that was listed and still active at one point.

Coaches with handcuffs is never good news. New guy seems like he will be told what to do as well.

LOL Tort's is shit . Philly had the same record and are on their way down and that's after adding Drysdale . I would trade Tort's for Todd straight up .
Flyers were 7th in Metro last season(8th the season before), now they're 3rd in metro. That's not "the same record". You are completely wrong.

Glad it happened, assistant coaching suits Todd more. Really wish they would have gone with Gallant or Berube though (if they were even available).

It’s obvious they waited until the road trip was over and the win in the last game wasn’t gonna save him.

I think the same thing happened to his buddy Woodcroft earlier in the year. They were on a road trip and his fate was clearly sealed after the game in San Jose, but they let him coach out the last game on the road trip, which wound up being a win in Seattle. He was fired a day or two later and that was the last game he coached there.

Coutier and Atkinson were injuried all last year . The team in by christmas was doing well , then Tort's get to doing his shit creating crap amung the players demotes Hayes pisses Provorov to the point he demands a trade screws with DeAngelo and the list goes on .

Krug vetos a trade here cause Tort;s is the coach .
Tort's is the most hated coach in the NHL and their is a reason for it . But no from the outside looking in he's great . gmab

oh man! Why couldn't this have happened after the Kings lost to the Wings on Jan 4th?

It would've given the Wings a hat trick of coaches fired this season.

McLellan and Turcotte both joined the Kings in 2019. With Turcotte finally getting his 1st NHL goal last game, Todd's job was done.

to do this while everyone is taking a break during on all star's weekend? classless move by LAK.....
there is a lot of classless organization. Flames/Nucks/Habs/Jets for trading playing while they were on a break. Happens every year, Trades or sackings. Burke sacking Keenen during the all star break was legendary, "There is only one GM of this team and it is me" or something like that

Yet they're 3rd in metro with that roster. I look at that roster and they should be nowhere near a playoff spot.

Soft players being unable to handle tortorella is not news.

I actually read his name correctly, it’s just that my first thought when seeing that name in something hockey related is this guy. Someone people across the freeway are very familiar with. Between the last name and both first name’s beginning with J.

wore some of the GOAT masks

loved that flat black with the gold cage, then he just tweaked it slightly with the ghost flames in calgary, all of his masks had slight nods to other ones.. the switzerland ones were awesome too

Yes, if you count interims. He promoted John Stevens, then fired him after a year and hired Willie Desjardins as interim, then hired Todd McLellan and is now on Jim Hiller, another interim.

He also almost never used his timeouts. In 5 seasons as Kings coach, you could probably count on one hand the number of times that he called a timeout. It's as if he was saving them to use in some future game.

Oh ya...add timeouts to the list while here as well. We would be screaming at each other on here for him to take timeouts all the time.

Their record is still pretty decent, but their road record especially has me wondering, what's the best record a coach has ever been fired with?

Thats not how guaranteed contracts work. You can press box him I guess. I don't think the NHL PA would look the other way on something like that lol. Fake injury on Toronto island could work though...
