Tocchet Do We Really Need Him

I thought the answer from Tocchet was supposed to come this week. Today is the day? They should have just fired Tocchet when Montgomery was available and Van would be in the playoffs right now and not thinking about trying to find another good coach when one was already available. Not too mention that with all the open spots and Tocchet only taking one of them and FA not wanting to pay top dollar for a coach, Canucks will be getting another second rate coach.

I think the answer has been made but Rutherford being the sly dog he is has withheld the outcome so they might get a bit of a jump on other candidates for the job.
Allvin seems to like hiring one coach before the other is gone.

Rutherford said "they" would have an answer this week, not the would tell everyone right away.
I am sure if it was a positive then it would have been announced already.
Rutherford made it clear they don't want someone with their mind elsewhere, meaning to me, no doubt and a desire to be here. Waiting, while smart for Tocchet. may not mean the dedication Rutherford wants, it could mean Tocchet isn't 100% committed to stay.
I did notice that this time it is Rutherford doing the negotiations and contract, I guess Allvin shat the bed the last time because GMs almost always hire their own coach, this time it is Rutherford.

I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. The POHO and GM arrangement is always what one POHO wants to make of it. In our case, Rutherford has been the one to build out the management staff and never once has said that Allvin is the GM with full autonomy over hockey operations decisions. Alvin wasn’t even allowed to hire his own right hand person. More importantly, we’re talking about salary negotiations here. There’s no indication that Allvin doesn’t want Tocchet back.

They are on the same team but there might be some disconnect here or change of plans since Allvin did suggest the Canucks would exercise their team option.

But the guardian noticed it.

He'e probably a bit more plugged in to what's going on in the league with all his Team Canada connections and the fact he played pro.

Today's rumor courtesy of the Hockey Writers website, is that Tocchet his seeking a longer term deal from the Canucks in the $5m range per season--double what he was making.

If he signs for that--he automatically becomes the highest-paid coach in Canuck history. Will Aquilini blink and sign ANY coach for that kind of money? My bet is 'no'.

But I guess there's always a first time for everything.

I'm not aware of this but that's awesome. I'm not really sure that is relevant though given what we know. Like I said, we know that Rutherford hired our assistant managers before he hired Allvin. Allvin never got to hire his own AGM (although his choice might have been Clancey - still Clancey left and there was no replacement). Rutherford also hired Doerrie. I could say usually a GM is allowed to make one of these hires. So Rutherford being in charge of negotiating Tocchet's contract isn't unusual given the context in which the team has been run under Rutherford.
