Our only reason to trade Bouchard would be if we got a guy that’s already established as a top2/4 dman and only a couple years older than Bouchard (which is not happening). That deal would accelerate Bouch’s development for us and make us a contender. This trade doesn’t do shit for us. Don’t need to add a pp specialist like Olofsson when we already have the best pp in the league. The rest of the junk in the deal is useless to us.

Only a Sith deals in absolutes

To Edmonton: Olofsson (50% retained), Miller (50% retained), Anderson/Dell

To Buffalo: Bouchard, Koskinen

Edmonton add an offensive winger and a veteran RD in their prime, plus their choice of Anderson or Dell to serve as back-up or 3rd stringer

Buffalo get a young RD prospect with upside for their rebuild, while Koskinen gives them a warm body to play goal this season

NOTE: Turris and Eakin could also be included at Edmonton's discretion
You high?

I would have thought that too before Edmonton signed Barrie and Ceci to long term contracts over the summer...

The current decision makers for the Oilers aren't the ones who drafted Bouchard, so perhaps they don't have as much confidence in him as the previous regime
They signed Barrie because he was willing to sign on the cheap and the team unexpectedly lost Adam Larsson. The mix of guys with Barrie, Bear, and Bouchard was off so they traded Bear for help up front and took on Ceci. Bouchard is both highly regarded and has been perfectly and patiently developed. He’s ready and he’s showing it right now. Hard nope on this trade.

That's certainly a reasonable stance to take... one that I don't necessarily disagree with

One of the things this trade would do is allow the Oilers to move RNH back to C and roll with 3 capable lines...

Hyman - McDavid - Puljujarvi
Olofsson - Draisaitl - Yamamoto
Foegle - RNH - Kassian/Turris

Nurse - Barrie
Keith - Miller
Russell - Ceci

That's a formidable lineup

Keith has two years to show Bouchard how to be a champ. His parting wisdom to Bouchard will benefit the Sabres as well assuming he does end up playing there. In the mean time he's not getting moved any time soon.

Bouchard is a star defenseman in the making. He has been developed right. He is poised to come in blazing this year. Edmonton could potentially have 2 star dmen developed in thier system. Nurse and Bouch. They aren't trading one away.
