To make the next step, what do we need?

The cap is going up next year as it is already locked in stone. Every year gets balance through escrow. We will see how players react to that.

"The NHL and NHLPA also announced that team payroll ranges for the next three seasons would be an Upper Limit of $95.5 million and a Lower Limit of $70.6 million next season; an Upper Limit of $104 million and a Lower Limit of $76.9 million in 2026-27 and an Upper Limit of $113.5 million in 2027-28 with a Lower Limit of $83.9 million."

"The projected Team Payroll Ranges for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons will be subject to potential minor adjustments (up or down)."

they are not locked in stone but are only subject to minor adjustments, if there were truly concerns about the cap not going up as scheduled then this would be a huge story and someone would have reported it by now, but all we hear is about how much the cap is going up

We're f***ed

I don't think Chevy will be able to spend to those limits even if he wanted to, based on the caliber of players we attract

I think if there was worry about the cap going up next year you would have heard about it by now and that it would probably be a major issue in the cba negotiation after they came to an agreement to increase the cap, but considering the the cba is rumoured to be close to done I don't think it's a concern for the next couple of seasons

they just got a major revenue increase with the canadian tv deal being doubled what the last one was and they just set back 2 back records in attendance, I think the economy struggling right now would have more of an effect on the cap in a few years but for the next couple it will go up as expected

It HAS to be a concern. Have you paid any attention at all to the stock markets for the last 4 months? The entire world's economy is in a state chaos. No one is hiring. No one is investing. Everyone is waiting to see what will happen next.

it can be a concern, but a future concern... have you not paid attention to the tv contract they just signed? the attendance record they just set? the cba is close to being announced, you don't think the salary cap not going up would be an issue?

literally can not go 1 single day with out people talking about the salary cap going up, it's hilarious how you think that this wouldn't be a major news story and been reported on by now...

like please stop asking me if I paid attention to the market when you have continuously ignored the major revenue stream they just gained....

have you paid attention the the nhl/nhlpa agreing to the rise in the cap subject to MINOR changes up or down?

They only actually set the cap 1 year at a time. After next year they are just estimates.

The stock market is just a reflection of the economy. When the economy goes in the sewer revenue streams dry up.

That TV contract preceded the economic chaos. Companies are not investing in new projects or expansions. They are not hiring. Unemployment is rising and so are prices. The inflation is going to be much worse than the post-pandemic inflation. Look at the effect that had. All of the signs point to a major recession. You don't think that will affect ticket sales, merch sales, TV revenue?

before this season they did 1 year at a time but they decided to go 3 this year to give teams/agents clarity for the future

The agreement sets the following annual increases to the Upper Limit, subject to the Collective Bargaining Agreement being in effect beyond the 2025-26 season: $7.5 million in 2025-26; $8.5 million in the 2026-27 season and $9.5 million in the 2027-28 season.

The projected Team Payroll Ranges for the 2026-27 and 2027-28 seasons will be subject to potential minor adjustments (up or down).

they haven't felt the effect from the economy yet, the cap will go up, if the economy effects the nhl it will effect the salary cap in a few years time and we will likely have a flat cap then until the owners are whole again just like covid

Do you honestly think the cba talks would be going as smoothly and would be almost done if they some how went back on the agreement?

The cap not going up would be such a major story as that's all that's talked about on every show..

Jets success has always depended on drafting and it will remain so going forward with the cap increase. Scheifele, Hellebuyck, Morrissey, Ehlers, Connor, Perfetti, Samberg all home grown. They will have the money to spend if they need to, but they will have to draft and develop well as has always been the case.

maurice left the team because he wasnt able to take them or coach them any further....chevy has been here since the start of the return of the nhl to wpg...maybe he doesnt the ability or isnt able to take the jets to the next step of being a cup contender....as of now they r just a playoff contender

Yes because someone probably Garrett sent him the stats. Friedman even mentioned on the panel but did not say who sent him the message. Appleton more ice time than Ehlers stat.
Basically that's how Friedman gets the majority of his info nowadays ... he is too big to put his boots on the ground he gets his foot soldiers doing all the work. You notice how he is always checking his phone for messages especially at TDL.
??? They all do that
Having said that I agree with you 80% of the time.

I stand corrected then.

But the economic upheaval that is on the horizon will affect the NHL and all of its sources of revenue. The reaction to Covid might model what is coming, or not. This may be worse than that, or not. It is that uncertainty that is everywhere that is the problem right now. It could be a minor blip, or it could be the 1930s all over again.

If you stop watching the news
The world is not as bad as everyone thinks
On some level yes, but the last thing the average Canadian needs to do is be even less informed than they already are.

On the local level, I can already see how much farther my money got me in 2019 than it does now, and I can already notice the entire identity of my province and hometown start to evaporate rapidly.

Very much agree with this. The identity of this City is rapidly going downhill. I’ve never seen so many bums, and drug addicts, just going out to the grocery store. Kinda scary, the direction of the country is going right now.
