To make the next step, what do we need?

I don't think any big name FA are signing here, it's not going to happen, we could get a B or C player though. We will either need to trade to get someone and give up a lot, or use who we have.

We need a big, punishing, stay at home D man to play with Morrisey to also protect him.... The blues just took run after run at him because there was zero retribution. That was rough to watch.

We obviously also need a 2C. I think that will have to come from a trade of our futures. No one is making the jump internally to the level we need unless we get a surprise next year.

We need a scoring solution on line 3. I don't mind Nino but he definitely has dropped off this year. He looked slow a lot of games. I'm ok with Lowry and Nino if we have someone with some goal scoring ability on that line as well. They don't have to be a sniper, just better than Appleton (who there's no way we should have back)

I really like Tanev but we don't need his cap hit. We can get zero points from anyone lol.
Someone like Ford seems to have that ability.

If we don't keep Elhers, I think we would be better off making the big trade (or fa if the planets align) for a center and trying out someone like Lambert or even moving over Names to wing. An internal solution.

We have to be harder to play against. The second line was a push over in the playoffs and not a threat. We need to have players people hate to play against. We don't really have that now. Not to say we don't have defensively minded players, just no one really plays with that edge that puts doubt in the opposition players. Would I love Bennet? Yup but there's zero chance he's coming here.

Pius Suter isn’t necessarily an upgrade over Namestnikov, but he’d be another cog in the team’s bench strength.

Maybe Nino speaks highly of Winnipeg to him. Can’t be worse than the Vancouver shit show he was in this past season.

This team overperformed in the regular season. Great job by the coaching staff and the players. Even given the way the season ended, I feel like this was a successful year. Yeah, you want the 1st place team to go deeper in the playoffs, but frankly no one really had the Jets as President's Trophy contenders/winners this year. And frankly, two of the games against Dallas could have just as easily gone our way.

To get to the next level, this team needs to add grit. We need players that have that rare combination of hockey skill, plus grit and physicality - that is really a key differentiator in the post season. Not guys like Stan that generate grade A scoring chances against us whenever they try to land a big hit. The playoff game is different, the reffing is different, the punishment given out and taken is different. We don't have enough of that rare combination of hockey skill PLUS grit and toughness in key players. We need more players like (not necessarily these players, but like these players) the Tkachuk's, Brayden Schenn, Jamie Benn, Cory Perry (the old man), Sam Reinhardt, Chris Kreider, Evander Kane, Landeskog etc. And we need a coaching staff who will let the boys police the game when teams go after our star players.

Game 7 against St Louis will always be a great Jets memory for me.

These gritty skilled players are getting fewer and further between I'm afraid.

Trouba was one and Evander Kane another of ours that was exactly what this team has needed. We all know how that went.

We need to nail another or two. Is there even one in the draft this year ?

Very well said. Need as much as we can get.
