I don't expect the Jets making any big splash moves this summer other than signing Connor Samberg and Ehlers long term.
If Ehlers does not want to be here ... I can see Chevy using Ehlers' money to go after a good center in FAs or trade.
Jets were a couple of bounces away from the final 4 ... can't see major changes unless some players want to move on.

The team and players have to do everything possible to get better imo, not just run it back again. Obviously certain guys are far less likely to be traded then others, but how one would not listen on anyone when you fail your goal is weird idea to me. Any goal that is cup or blow it up is unrealistic imo , but we were far away from winning it all imo. Dallas is not a super strong team, major depth issues and I suspect they will not beat the Oilers. We barely got by the Blues and we lost to a weak Dallas team with poor depth. IMO
Looks at deals via FA, OS, trades to improve the team. We need to be more physical, the days of big bad Jets with Buff, Trouba, etc are long gone. We have a smaller top 4 D, pro/con, but would be nice to add another top 4 two way physical D. We need more speed and compete especially in our bottom six forwards. Names needs to be banished to the bottom six never to see 2C duty again barring injuries. For the love all that is holy can this team finally find a long term solution at 2C, we’ve sucked in that position since day one in 2011, a few points where it got slightly better then shitty but never good, never long term. I can’t stand watching so many plays die bc of Names hands of stone. Helle is a big boring butterfly goalie who cuts down the angles, not uncommon in the NHL, most butterfly goalies are weaker up high glove or blocker not a huge issue for me compared to how bad he is at his lateral movement, he’s brutal at it, he needs to dramatically improve his lateral movement. All teams know Helle weaknesses, high shots and lateral movement. Improve it dramatically Helle, that’s your job. Chevy needs to sign our current FA’s and Chipman needs to give him the green light to spend to the cap as it rises.

I have seen so much posting and talk in person about physacality, size, 'we need to get bigger/tougher'. I see it almost the complete opposite. Dallas didn't beat us cause of size, St. Louis lost to his despite all the size/hitting.
What this team needs is more scoring depth. We have, at best, 4 top 6 forwards if Ehlers leaves. You can't win a cup with a team like that. People pencilling in guys like Yager/Lambert/Chibs in the top 6 are dreaming. Lambert and Chibs were barely effective top 6 forwards in the AHL, Yager was a good WHL player but quite clearly needs more time.
I am not worried about goaltending and defense, Samberg/Pionk and Jomo/Demelo are an effective top 4. Work in Salomonsson either next year or the year after and you have the makings for a good defense. Helle is going to be a 3 time vezina winner and showed well vs. Dallas.
We need players who can put the puck in the net and drive offense.

Watched a video from Craig Button on the Leafs this morning, and he basically said the biggest mistake the Leafs have made over the last number of years, was trying to win the Stanley Cup with finesse and skill. The NHL playoffs have not evolved like the regular season where skill is king in the regular season. Not to say you don't need skilled players in the playoffs, but the playoffs are still a slugfest, and you need players that bring more than just skill to succeed.
Look at the Jets... People were complaining about how slow Schenn ( 6'2" 225lbs ) was in the playoffs, but imagine if the Jets had put someone like Heinola ( 6'0" 181 lbs ) instead of Schenn. Heinola would have added some skill and speed, but would have ended up in a body bag after a few games against St. Louis.

Yet skill and finesse still wins more often then not in the playoffs. Tampa times 2, Pittsburgh times 3, Chicago times 3, Washington, Colorado, Anaheim etc.
Yes you need other attributes as well but talent is absolutely a prereq for winning a cup.
Florida while it has some size and grit is also full of elite talent like Barkov, Reinhart, Tkachuk etc.

I don’t think the point is that the Jets need more Luke Schenns, but they need more skilled grit. The first line did their job offensively. The third line shut down Rantanen. The second line did pretty much nothing at 5v5 during the playoffs.
Where was the skilled grit on Tampa, Colorado, Chicago etc. Florida is a unique team but plenty of other teams have one with more finesse based players.

I'd argue 3 out of the 4 teams left are not known at all for physicality/size/grit.
Edmonton speed and offense, Dallas all around offense with Harley/Heiskanen as mobile 2-way studs (neither are physical), Carolina a shut-down team that is more about structure/defense than anything else.
Do you need some? For sure, but it's not the end all be all, and not the thing the Jets were missing this year.

While I think 2C is important, I would rather spend assets for a right hand D to play beside Morrisey. I think we can solve 2C internally (or at least need to try).
A third pair of Demelo and Salmonsen would alleviate all those issues we have with the bottom pair and help when one of the top 6 gets hurt.

Would like to see the coaches consider managing Helle’s workload and perhaps looking at someone else to help Helle’s mental playoff preparations.
I’m assuming they have someone in place but they could consider a different perspective?
Next playoff, consider playing your back up if the struggles continue.
I definitely would have gone Comrie in the road games.

He will be earning more than Chef and Helle next season. It's just the timing and the increased Cap.
I am okay with that. I am not okay with paying Nik 9 million unless it's less than 7 years.

Nik will still be better than the majority of bottom 6 players in 7 years.
If he stays it’s north of 9 million for sure
If he goes to the Leafs because they Marner is gone , he’d get north of 10
So do we all -- but Buff was a unicorn because he was both genuinely intimidating to play against and a high-end offensive force once he'd dialled in his game and had an effective partner.
That combo, playoff-level toughness plus scoring, isn't easy to find, and the Jets have never really found a replacement for him (no surprise) just as they've never really found an effective B Little replacement at 2C.
JMo is an elite PMD/ overall defenceman. He's plenty effective without being tough. Samberg is emerging as an elite defender, and can nail down that second pairing. Hopefully Salmo is given a chance to develop on the 3rd paring this season. With Pionk signed longterm, that leaves 2 and maybe only one spot. So which supertough D can be paired with Salmo (if he plays) or JMo (pending DD)?
The success of this Jets season suggests that the base formula is solid and needs some smart optimization round the edges, likely among the forward group if Ehlers leaves (and if he stays) and at the back end.
The Jets don't win at the highest end with their current core, and there's no obvious replacements for prime KFC, Scheifele etc in the pipeline. So they need to perfect their formula for winning by committee.
Maybe adding toughness helps there? IDK. Not easy to make these calls without knowing who plays next year.
Corey Perry, couldnt play anymore either. Top old and slow. There's plenty of 37 year olds who are game changers right now in the playoffs.
Toews has the luxury of having 2 years off. There is absolutely no doubt he will play in the N next season and play well. I just hope its for the Jets
Perry isn't close to the player he once was which I think is the point. He's still useful in a depth role but Noone is running him out as the first line star he was in his prime.
If we got Toews (I'm not opposed) it's likely he'd only be able to give you fourth line minutes and some special teams time. Expecting him to jump back into a top 6 spot when he was barely a top 6 player when he stepped away isn't realistic.

I think most people have a skewed perception of what these guys are still able to do and contribute.
Obviously Toews wouldn't be the same player he was in his 20s, nobody is expecting that. He's a depth addition and I think he would fit in well with Perfetti
I'd bring him in for leadership alone. I think he'd have a lot of wisdom to pass on to players like Cole. Wanted him last year to help Cole transition to the middle of the ice. If he's healthy and fit then there really is no downside that I can see.
