Yes an impressive step the Jets made this year. I would think it surprised everyone on this board!
Knowing what we know, what is it that we need to make the next step? I don't think Ehlers will resign with us sadly BUT that's going to leave room for maybe a top 4 d-man. Who plays defense next fall?

We can still hope that Ehlers does sign with us. I believe the Jets will definitely make him a fair offer.

I would personally love to see this team add Johnny Toews. I believe he is ready to go and wants to compete. He would be a very good 2nd C and likely still has a lot of good years left.

I believe Solomonsson will be getting a fair look next season.

Highly doubt Toews is a 2C anymore. He hasn't played in years and I'm sure he has lost a step since then.

this is a good start …. Just need a few tweak

we got
1C
1D ( feel bad for JMO this year )
1W
1G

got to find how to win a road playoff game..

Lets go Ehlers!!!! resign

Looking at The Oilers and Stars in the Western Finals. These two teams have gone through a lot more recently than our Jets and look at their heart breaks.

It their time this year

next year its ours!!!

The playoffs are not the regular season and we are not built for a long playoff run. The Jets need more players that can actually produce results in the playoffs and not just fill roster spots.

And as far as goaltending… who the Helly knows. After 3 seasons of being the worst goalie on the planet ( minus a game here and there) in the playoffs what do you do? I know other teams would be having serious talks about moving on from a goalie that gives them horrible playoff performances like we have seen, but we all know the Jets will take the “cross your fingers and hope for the best” when it comes to Helly even if it means 7 more playoffs like the last 3.

The thing is finding a goalie who is playoff beast is very hard to find.
Sometimes some of the goalies gets into a hot streak at the right time.

Looking at the bigger picture here, keeping Helly and trying to push further is more clear path than finding someone out there to replace him.

Like i said in my other post. More teams have had more heartbreaks than our Jets recently.

The real focus should be, and i know it starts with Helly. How they can win on the road. If they are able do that next year. For sure another big steps is taken.
Then again the window with our core is very small now. Hopefully another couple young players step up to plate and contribute. We sure not going to get it via trade deadline or Free agency.

THEY need to look at all the tapes over and over again as a team and coaching staff. All the road games and see what failed them.

Looking at the bright side the last 2 games on the road was way better and what mattered most is they showed the fight that was lacking in other playoff years.

Just the Stars coming from back to back Western Finals just loaded more.

GO JETS GO

yes Jets need to add 1 or 2 that thrives in the playoffs but again easier said than done just because its Winnipeg Manitoba.

Imagine if the JETS wins it they will buck the trend on how to build a championship team.

Helle just needs to show up and this team could have gone all the way... he kept them from real momentum all playoffs

Need a real backup and helle to accept less games... i recommend schenn for brossoit

Draft/trade for size with speed... fleury could be part of the answer but more size on our D and forecheck is needed

Guys like morgan geekie or jeannot would help our mid six...

I'm not gonna pile on Helly, but ya. All we needed was .900 goaltending and we were a contender. We did quite well for .866
Not really piling on if it's truth. He didn't play like the MVP or Vezina stud...hasn't played like it in years.

To pair with an all time low sv%, they had all time low SOG against per game, which barely anyone is giving the Jets skaters credit. An 0.866 on 22 SOGs per game looks different vs 30+.

Adding one more thing…

A legitimate backup goalie that can play 20-25 regular season games to give more game management to Helly ( even if he doesn’t want it ) and a goalie that can step in and give you an option in the playoffs if Helly struggles or even gets hurt.
I'm torn. I was against Comrie but he played really well and seems really close with a lot of the core group.

He does, but Comrie comes across as someone just being kept to be available for practices and the occasional game. It looked like the Jets had zero confidence in him to actually start a playoff game, which he should have. A game or two in the St. L series and maybe game 4 in the Dallas series.

I really don't think it's about rest for helle, it seems like it has all to do with what's in between his ears, as soon as the playoffs started his game fell off a cliff, as we finally got over the round 1 hump he seemed to start turning a corner in the dallas series

I remember in 2018 thinking it was the start of deep runs but instead we never went deep again until this year.

7 years

They’re going to have to ensure they stay competitive and build around the team to continue going deep, and avoid the mistakes made in years past. Chevy has a good idea I think. They have a good room, good formula

At best he’s a 3c at this stage. Preferably 4c.

What can be done, and what is love to happen are two different things.

Re-signing Ehlers is a priority. That transition ability cannot be replicated easily, I really hope they don’t discount what he brings. The injuries, and turnovers are concerning but overall I hope he stays. Cap going up considerably next few years, make it happen.

Vilardi as well needs to be brought back.

The UFA market is slim, Bennet - and Donato really the only 2C candidates, not sure they can grab either.

Chevy will have to be creative, to find viable targets. The contention window is now, and the core needs help. Namestnikov is not a viable 2C. I’d like to explore an offer sheet for McTavish. Screw the compensation.

The team is close. Need to add here, not lose talent.
