Burning questions!

With the acquisition of MSL, does that mean Ritchie is sticking around?

How does that work? If the Rangers decide to do a regular buyout on Ritchie after next year, how does that work?

Would the Rangers use the last compliance buyout on someone else?

With raises, we may not have much cap space left. Problem? Giving guys raises:

2.21 mil free with a 71 mil ceiling

Nash (7.8 mil) - Richards (6.6) - St. Louis (5.6)
Kreider (2.3) - Stepan (3.075) - Zuccs (3)
Pouliot (1.7) - Brassard (3.5) - Hags (2.25)
Dorsett (1.633) - Moore (1) - Carcillo (825k)

G (5.5) - McD (4.7)
Staal (3.9) - Stralman (2)
Moore (1.3) - Klein (2.9)

Lundqvist (8.5)
Talbot (562k)

All these and more discussed here.

I would be very surprised if he stayed a ranger. That money will prob go to the best center available.

Who knows? Too early to discuss.

Of course. There's 20 games to play and decisions to be made based on that, but I was just curious about current thoughts.

If the Rangers don't use the compliance buyout this year, what happens if they want to do a regular buyout on Richards?

if tonight is any sign of what is to come it looks like MSL is pushing Richards out there, if they find chemistry I think its a much tougher pill to swallow with the idea you'll be able to find another center.

Looks like BRich is really forcing it to MSL. I think he knows that it will be harder to dump him if things click. Lol

A regular buyout won't work. Check capgeek.com to see why.

It's compliance buyout or keep him for the remainder of his contract.

UFA centers that are better options than Brad Richards are pretty limited:

Matter of fact, it's downright abysmal. Looking more and more like Richards won't be bought out.
But Stastny's on that list! The market really wont be good for centers if Richie and Marty work well together I think its much more likely we keep him around in a couple years with the cap going up his cap hit wont be terrible. A buyout further down the line however is not an option, Sathers going to have a tough decision to make.

What if we used a regular buy out say after the 2018-2019. What would that look like?

We see one game of him and MSL and that is enough to convince people that he shouldn't be bought out?

Buyout.

I don't think it's necessarily that. I think it's just recognition that, aside from Stastny, there's not much out there, and Stastny may not be much of an upgrade to begin with.

Barring some kind of trade for a #1C, we're not getting one.

And scarcity will make Stastny quite pricey.

He held MSL back tonight, didn't help him.

Slats had no problem firing Torts after convincing Richards to come and if Richie played a role in MSL coming, Slats should have no problem letting Richie go.

His point totals are fine, everything else is trash. Guy is a shell and just doesn't have it anymore.

Fortunately, a win occurs when goals for exceed goals against, and points correspond to goals. Players add value to their teams by contributing to goals or preventing goals -- so it looks like Richards has been valuable.

I honestly have no idea, I tried to look it up after I posted the quote with the buyout if it happened today but really couldn't figure it out, nor did I want to ***** confusing, maybe someone else can figure that out there's plenty of "cap geeks" on here.

Given that Sather has essentially mortgaged the better part of the next two drafts to acquire a 38-year-old MSL, I don't think Sather is going to buy out Richards. Buying out Richards does not make the team better and Sather is in win now mode more than ever so that should say enough. Eh... the only way I can see otherwise would be if Stastny is a certainty to sign here. He'd probably still try to find a way to keep both.

I'll reserve judgement after this season is completed, but I'm leaning towards a definite buyout.
