Was at the game last night. Other than playoff games, haven't heard the building rocking like that in a very long time. The last 10-12 minutes of the third period were crazy, the crowd wouldn't shut up. As Arpon Basu titled his article last night "Montreal fans give the Canadiens a glimpse of what they are playing to experience". Crazy to think only Gallagher has experienced a playoff game with a full building. Electric.

Yeah. They have done a great job. I just hope they don't run out of gas. We have bug hole in the second line and top 4. I'm surprise Kent did not try to trade for a cheap 3c to play with Laine and Newhook. Roy has been a disappointment and Beck is not top 6 player.

I think cheap amd 3c didn't go together this deadline. Prices were high.

And the TDL was before the Dach injury. Dach at wing and Newhook at C may be better than anything we could have gotten cheap at the TDL.

Crosby would be a dream come true. Never gonna happen though, unless people are willing to give up one of Demidov or Slaf + Lane Hutson and maybe 2-3 1st round picks.
Pittsburgh wouldn’t ask for Demidov. That’d be way too high a price for a guy who’s probably got five years left in the league.

2-3 firsts we could actually do. We’ve stockpiled picks and prospects. We have two this year and one next season. I’d deal those for Crosby. It kicks off the rebuild for Pittsburgh, they can tank for Mackenna next season and the first we give up next year would likely be a low pick. They could also start dealing off Malkin and Karlsson.

It makes a lot of sense for both clubs. And we could include a guy like Struble. High price to pay but we become immediate contenders next year. And we’d have a long window to win some cups. Crosby buys us time to develop Hage.

Still hoping we go after Crosby.
I would be REALLY REALLY surprised that Crosby, at his age, when the pressure to put our team on another level. I might not be right there but at one point, in age, comes a time when you want to just finish your career remembering and being honored for what you did rather than what you have been unable to do......And that is disregarding him wanting to start and finish his career with the same team.

Do you think he’d want a chance to win another cup? How about doing it in the place he grew up cheering for as a kid?

You could be right. It might not be a possibility. That’s okay… go ask. Push as hard as you can.

One of the things that makes Crosby such a great player is that he is ultra-competitive and he applies that to the entire 200 ft game no matter where the puck is and who has it. He would be terrific on the Habs not just because they only have one top 6 centre, but because of what all the other players (whom are mostly very young) and not just the centres, would learn from him, especially in important games and important moments.

Being so competitive means there is no doubt Crosby would also love to compete for another cup. Whether it is Mahomes or LeBrun or Crosby those elite players play for the biggest games and thrive in them. However, there is a difference between someone like Ray Bourque wanting to win his first cup to cap off a great career versus hoping (there are no guarantees) to doing it for the 4th time. And there is something to be said for the loyalty of players who play their entire careers with one team that is loyal back to them. Crosby, Malkin and Kopitar have all won multiple cups with one team where they will all go down as legends on those teams. So I don’t expect any of those 3 to ever play for another team, and as much as would love to see Crosby as a Hab, having played an entire illustrious career with one team is also quite an accomplishment that I think outweighs his status than if he won one more cup. (One exception to that is if Crosby was chasing GOAT status and/or all-time records for championships like Tom Brady or LeBron James.)

He looked like he just dropped his stick tho soon as he realized that sexy ass CH jersey was remotely close to him. Reading thr GDT I thought Gally actually bumped him judging by how many ppl wanted his head.
On HNIC last night, Kelly Hrudey, an ex-goalie of course, said that Bobrovsky is a savy veteran who easily dropped his stick as soon as Gallagher touched it, knowing that if the Habs were to score it would get called back even though that contact was so minimal.

Being surrounded by the world's best players seems to have had a positive affect on Samuel Montembeault. If he keeps playing like this down the stretch I think the Habs could make the playoffs.

I just saw the no goal from the firsf. Ngl that was weak af. Gallagher barely touched old boy.
Perhaps. However, it appeared one of the Habs threw a pick at a Panther at the blue line to help Newhook enter the O-zone. The refs contributed directly to 3 of the goals last night, including the goal called back of goalie interference. They allowed the Panther to interfere with Matheson on the Florida goal, and they allowed Gally's trip of the Panther defenceman which led to the turnover that led to the Habs' 3rd goal

st louis needs to ride a hot hand and not alternate until one goalie is clearly in need of a break. Montanbo's been hot last 2-3 games. Ride him, get in a clear and then give Dobes a game or 2. I mean, he's been doing pretty well catching pucks on the bench... didn't he save some reporter last night?

Laine has pulled his weight this season. Give him some players that can follow him and complement his talent. He's not the problem here... everyone outside the 1st line is the problem.

Monahan was a glorified PP player also when he was here because his linemates 5on5 were trash
I'm not sure why you would even bring Monahan into your premise. Laine is playing a bottom 6 role everyone knows it. We don't have a second line we have a bottom 9 and his line is the most sheltered of that group. Fun fact in Laine's last 10 games we've lost every one of them where he/his line came out with a net negative. His PP play becomes extremely valuable when his line can hold serve. Our playoff aspirations rest on this as much as our top line continuing to win it's head to head matchups. There is a reason his 5v5 play gets constantly brought up not only by his coach but by himself as well. As far as I can see they get the easiest matchups whenever possible and they need to take advantage of it. Unfortunately we aren't getting much from Evans or Dvorak so it becomes even more magnified down the stretch. He needs to play like he did last night all the time if we are to have a chance. It is what it is next season is the true test for Laine as he wil be in a more traditional 2nd line role.
