Sandin didn't cover himself in glory but that was Roy who got absolutely walked and forced Sandin to make a decision ...
The “decision” is to always play the pass. Absolutely no way there’s a real chance there if Sandin stays on the open man instead of trying to prevent what would be a bad shot anyway

Roy had his partner there covering the pass, so he took away the shot… until his partner decided to come and join him for some reason and opened up the pass. That’s all on Sandin.

Yeah, but that is an instinct play. Roy getting beat and he goes to the man. Instinctual. Sure if he was a computer and saw the guy behind him he would have made a different play. But this hasn’t been chronic this year. It’s one play.

Been trying to pay more attention to PLD tonight. He is big and strong on the puck but he needs to come away with it more. If he can clean that up and finding the back of the net we will like this guy. He’s not there yet.

I’m sorry but it’s just not the move. I understand that it’s an instinct, we’ve seen it a bunch of times, but ultimately you’re just better off letting the goaltender field the shot. It’s 2 on 1 basics and your partner getting beat shouldn’t change the equation.

It’s not some massive sleight on Sandin either, I see too many NHL D doing it because it feels so urgent and correct, but every time they do I point like the DiCaprio meme because it’s just not what you should be doing there.

I’m dying laughing, watching this through Hulu/ESPN so the commercials are just a waiting screen but occasionally I get these flashes of regional ads

Just sat through about a minute of white noise and then saw maybe 5 seconds of Slapshot and Boudreau on a house tour, then cut right to black followed by white noise again.

I don’t know what makes that so funny but it’s got me going
