Tkachuk hit on Guentzel (no supplemental discipline)

Imagine that these Florida Teams have won a Cup more recently and in this decade before those "Real" Hockey cities.
You responded to me, waited 20 mins, deleted that post, and then re-responded with this? Do you really think this is clever enough to warrant that? Enjoy the series big guy, not sure why you brought up the leafs in the first place but try not to obsess over them too much.

I agree that what Hagel did wasn’t worthy of a suspension. I just don’t like that they set that precedent and then didn’t do anything about the Tkachuk hit. In a vacuum I doubt I would have cared about not suspending him though.

Also to be completely fair, if I were to say that I’m not biased about this, I would be a liar.

I think there's some game/series engineering going on here. Hagel gets suspended for one and Tampa somehow wins, so the whole thing is basically wiped. Tkachuk gets a freebie as aggressors sometimes do and it's just a 2-1 series with the pyrotechnics set up. Not the best from a player "safety" POV but the entertainment is going to be off the charts.

I didn't delete the post kiddo, That was the mods.

I need lilly to smash him, He can't really do anything but hit people so this is right up his ally.

I was joking about how quickly Matthew Tkachuk skates backwards into his "hold me back ref" stance after an incident like that. I think a few Lightning guys will be chasing after him in Game 4, while Florida guys are simultaneously chasing after Hagel. It's going to be wild.

The refs also always save him and get in between him and players going after him after he does some dumb crap.

My feeling is the NHL inherently prefers a longer series, so there's some even up engineering at play all the time. Secondly they don't like the be actively involved in deciding a series, so you get this big bad instigator teams vs power play merchants where there's a push pull factor. How much do you commit infractions, how infrequently do you call them, how effective is the countervailing PP. A goon team can't be sunk by a hot PP. But a skill team also can't be completely mauled by a goon squad. When outrageous acts occur you factor into the public reaction and size of the market. Simplifying for the sake of discussion but this is all in the Tampa Florida series.

If this were true they would have suspended the panthers one good goal scoring forward

The NHL DOPS is clearly a joke.
All hell is going to break loose now.

Maybe the lightning should have faked and injury.

Joke when they're not giving suspension for late hit? Result had nothing to do with injury but the fact one was late hit and other was "unexpected hit" why is it so difficult, read what they wrote.

Yes, if you have ever watched professional hockey outside NA (or even play hockey) you can immediately tell when engineering hits in, its all about bets and manipulating results, they're not even hiding it anymore the league is registered as a entertaining business not sports. But yeah I understand its not allowed to talk here or anywhere else..

so lets just enjoy the show or whatever

This hit really didn't deserve a suspension, this was the correct call. The context surrounding it is the only reason it could have been a suspension, but the hit itself was punished appropriately during the game. Good on the NHL for getting it right.
Yeah kudos to the NHL for f***ing over one team while letting the other get away with the exact same thing

This again, what is wrong with Tampa fans, why don't they understand rules at all. Honestly wondering.

They were nothing alike and both calls went exactly how they should, according to rules.
What's wrong is that I have more than two brain cells to rub together and can actually form a coherent thought. This seems to be a rare sight among Panthers fans lol

Both were given major penalties, and according to the rules for interference: "There are no specified fines or suspensions for interference, however, supplementary discipline can be applied by the Commissioner at his discretion (refer to Rule 28)."

So there literally are no set rules at all for interference suspensions, it's all up to whatever the league feels like doing that day. But please, tell me more about how I don't understand the rules.

Both late. But on unsuspecting players. One “hurt” one not.
The nhl and their random wheel of justice was in full force on this one

The only real difference was with one hit, the player contact was made against didn’t actually contact the puck and in other situation, that player had previously contacted the puck. And that was the difference in deciding one was a suspension and the other wasn’t.

Neither should have been worthy of a suspension, just the penalty assessed on the ice.

Not every interference are equal. Neither of your brain cells seems to accept that, according to jury "Barkov was never in possession of the puck and was not eligible to be checked." according to jury "still intentionally delivers an extremely forceful body check to an unsuspecting opponent."

Now listen carefully so both your brain cells will hang on the ride

Barkov never had the possession
Guentzel touched the puck and therefore had the possession

Rule 56 – Interference in the NHL Rulebook.
  • Possession of the Puck:

The last player to touch the puck, other than the goalkeeper, shall be considered the player in possession. The player deemed in possession of the puck may be checked legally, provided the check is rendered immediately following his loss of possession.

the only real difference and huge difference

The irony coming from Panthers fans when you guys didn't exist prior to maybe two years ago.

We understand the rules just fine, But neither hit was suspension worthy.
