I just think Tkachuk compliments the Leafs forward core more-so than Nylander does.

Obviously, Nylander holds more value right now, but Tkachuck is in his rookie season and Nylander is in his draft + 2.

Nylander gets to return to his hometown of Calgary

No thanks. Not a slight to Tkachuk whatsoever but I'd rather keep Nylander.

In fact, I'd venture a guess and say most, if not all, Flames fans would say no as well.

yeah thats the response i thought i'd get, just interesting to think about a potential: Marner - Matthews - Tkatchuk line, that would absolutely insane.

Marner and Tkachuk back together would be fun to watch but it'd be hard to trade Nylander right now.

They are born in 96' and 97'.

The Leafs don't entertain, and shouldn't, this for a second

Nylander is eligible for the Calder aka he is in his rookie season

Although not many would, I'd do this.

There is a part of me that is intrigued to see a

Tkachuk-Matthews-Marner line down the road but Nylander (at least imo) is going to slide over to centre later in the year (if and when Bozak departs) and then Matthews-Marner will end up together.

JVR-Matthews-Marner isn't the worst either.

That is just from my perspective as a Leafs fan.

Calgary fans? Probably very content to have Tkachuk.

Yeah they're both technically in their rookie season, but Nylander has had 2 more years of development at the pro level than Tkachuk. Which is why the poster said draft +2.

Regardless, it's an interesting proposal. Although I do think most flames fans would reject it based on the fact that Tkachuk plays a style that the flames desperately needs to help content in the west.
Value wise, I don't think it's too far off

I pretty much agree with this but you have to think the Op had a trade circle in mind. Get Tkachuk and then you trade JVR for D, the problem is it ruins our #2C option. I am excited by the idea of having a number 2 who is or almost is good enough to be a #1 C.

Love Tkachuk but he is not a need and so this makes little sense, only if we move JVR would it and even then I am not sure it works.

All that aside, I would rather keep the guys we have drafted and invested time in developing, especially before the rebuild is done and we know what our prospects are.

So weird. Leafs finally have young players to be proud of in Nylander and Marner and there's all kinds of threads, from Leafs fans, suggesting we trade them. I don't get it.

Not really looking to trade him. I just thought it would be a fun proposal. Nylander and Tkachuk project to have very similar impacts over their careers. Tkachuk plays an old school brand of hockey, similar to what Jamie Benn brings today, whereas Nylander plays a more skill and speed type (like Backstrom). I think Leafs have too much speed and skill in their organization, and could benifet from having a Hard-Nosed, Skilled, Sized player such as Tkachuk. Obviously many including myself believe Nylander is better right now, and will likely be a 70+ point player. Im one of the biggest Nylander fans but Tkachuk could really help this team out in the future.

Creates a hole at centre for the future if you're thinking that Nylander is likely to slide over to centre at some point

Matthews
?
Kadri
Gauther(?)

Big hole. My 2 cents is it is easier to find wingers then it is centres. Just discussing this in a general sense though. Tkachuk is a really good player and it's not like the value is terrible.

Marner could Center Tkachuk.

I find it annoying myself, but I try to look at it from this perspective. If you are a Leaf fan who enjoys making trade proposals and you observe what management has said we will do, you basically have Bozak, Polak and Cap dumps to make your proposals with. Not going to be much fun for the makers of the proposals.

In reality pretty much nothing of worth is available on our team right now.

Dont know what you expect from a 2c but Kadri definitely is a good second line center.

Marner could Center Tkachuk.

He's been great at RW, and outside of that stretch in his draft year playing C in the playoffs before getting injured, he hasn't been as effective at centre as he has at wing since.

Since it was basically all last year at RW minus like a 4-5 game stretch post WJC, and all this year at RW, I think he is what he is at this point.

Dont know what you expect from a 2c but Kadri definitely is a good second line center.

Unless there was some elite wingers involved, I am not confident in Kadri being a high end enough 2C on a cup winning team, but again, just my opinion.
