TJ Oshie retires

Hate to see him retire because he was a lot of fun to watch play. My favorite Cap after Ovi and Wilson. That being said, given his injury issues, good on him for valuing quality of life with his family. Seems like the right decision. He will be missed.

The Blues/Blackhawk rivalry that strong?

It's more of a STL versus Chicago rivalry than just a Blues versus Blackhawks thing. See Cardinals versus Cubs rivalry which is one of the best in sports IMO because no one can trust those stinking Cubs fans (most of which who have historically bandwagoned with the Blackhawks but only when they're good)!

Makes it a bit ironic the Cardinals went from Chicago to St. Louis in 1960

But the Cubs got Harry Caray from STL, mind you with a lifetime supply of ice cold Budweisers to help him with the 7th inning stretch. HOLY COW

Some other posters have mentioned it already, but count me in for thinking his shootout performance against Russia at the 2014 Olympics as being absolutely legendary. I will always remember him primarily for that, until the day I am no longer of this world.
Bah. All y'all is just biased is all.

Maybe my favorite Capital ever. Very talented with great hands, a guy you could rarely accuse of having a lazy night. Played much bigger than his size, which probably led to his injuries that kept piling up (I believe he said at one point his back was so bad he couldn’t get off the floor and was peeing in bottles). He’d come back from injuries and just play the way he played before, no use trying to get him to take it easy, it just wasn’t in his nature.

I think he’ll have a job somewhere in the Caps organization the rest of his working days if he wants. Extremely beloved in the Capitals world.
I worry and kept up with sleepless nights that TJ won’t find employment post career. I do hope his 10’s of millions is enough for him to put a roof over his head and food on the table. I will pray for TJ in hopes he can find work to provide for his family. Be well TJ, be well

Oshie for Brouwer & Copley. Horrendous trade in real time. Horrendous in hindsight. But happy he flourished in WSH and got a Cup.

Fun little trade tree on that that might make you feel even worse (or better) about it..

The Caps also sent their 3rd round pick in the 2016 draft to St. Louis.

At the 2016 draft, St. Louis traded up in the first round. They sent that third rounder back to DC along with pick #28 in exchange for the Caps' first rounder, pick #26. The Blues selected Tage Thompson with that pick.

Tage was of course part of the package traded for ROR, who won the Conn Smythe when the Blues took home the Cup in 2019. Which hopefully takes some of the long term sting out of that deal.

The highlight goals/moves and shoot-outs gets the eye of the public, and known for big hits and warrior style of play and great character and teammate.

What sticks with me is how great he was at the "small details" that you dont normally pay much attention to. He was absolute beast at screening and blocking guys, timely stick lifts and such. He made it a lot easier for guys like Ovechkin and Kuznetsov to do their things, winning them an extra second or some space.

What does this even mean?
The Chicago Cardinals moved to St. Louis in 1960, becoming the St. Louis Cardinals.

So an NFL team moved from Chicago to St. Louis, a longstanding rival I'm various sports AND took on the name of the local baseball team that Chicagoans hate.

Then they moved to Phoenix in 1988 and it was all for naught anyway

I'm sure TJ appreciates your heartfelt concern.
