you have to know about pop culture or you are toast.

some very smart people just stand there staring at the tv cameras.

I hate the categories that are very specific, such as "18th Century French Autobiographies Written in Blue Ink".

I know it's a quiz show that's designed to be difficult, but the show seems a lot harder than I remember when I was younger.

find out who the show's current commercial sponsors are and be prepared to answer questions like: It is a tasty rice product that originated in San Francisco...What is Rice a roni? Or: This automobile has been rated 1st overall in safety and comfort the past 3 years....etc. Jeopardy does this a lot.

Yeah I know

you see 2-3 stupid categories pop up in one round and you know it's going to be a bad time

My former college roommate won for three days on Jeopardy.

In final Jeopardy, if the subject is Art, always answer "Who is Degas?"

I've always wondered how much do contestants study before going on Jeopardy. It's impossible to know everything (unless you are Watson or something) but I'm sure there is a ton of prep you need to do. Also I watch Jeopardy a lot and I would say know your history rather than pop culture.

I used to do trivia competitively. (yes, laugh it up)

This would be a decent start for Jeopardy:

-American geographic locations
-State capitals
-Presidents and Vice Presidents (and their tenure dates)
-American Revolutionary War and Civil War
-Oscar winners
-Nobel prize winners
-Other famous historical figures
-Sports legends
-Rough start and end dates for historical conflicts
-Shakespeare
-Art movements

AND...
-Potpourri
