No he didn’t. Liljegren has been awful all season. The best time to trade him was last year when he played really well for that 3 month stretch before the playoffs. His value will never be higher
The best our dcore looked was with him on the top pair leading the charge on pp1 how did you see it any other way?

Idk maybe the fact that he literally cost us a game in the series cause he couldn’t handle a little shove on the forecheck has my blinders on. Liljegren is good for one brutal game costing turnover in the playoffs.

I don’t think it’s just him but the team as a whole doesn’t play a playoff style during the regular season and then they are not equipped for the playoffs. Yes Liljegren is good on the PP and is a good mover of the puck but you can’t be in the NHL and not be able to handle a forecheck.

Time for both Lilly and the Leafs to part ways, he showed he can’t handle the physical aspects of being a NHL D man, doubt the Chief will want the cowardly Lion playing on his D………

My thoughts on Liljegren:

Well... Bye.

No way Im getting rid of him. He just turned 25, he doesnt even have 200 games. YOu have a home grown RHD, just keep him. YOu can always trade him. If Holl has a market, Lily for sure has.

With no clear cut replacement in the organization you’d better be trading him with the idea of bringing in a legit top end RHD. Otherwise you’re paying in free agency.

I’m in the keep Liljegren camp. He has shown signs of playing up in the lineup when needed. 200 GP and only like 10 playoff games. I think his game will age well as he matures.

Should be a bargain sign and I’m curious to see him under a new coach.

What kind of offer are people who want to keep him thinking he will accept?

I’d be fine giving him 1 more year at 1.4 but I feel like he’d want a decent amount more.

IMO Lilj has never developed properly because:
a) periodic injuries every time it seemed he was poised to breakout.
b) badly mismanaged by Keefe, who never had any confidence in him at all. One mistake and he was stapled to the bench or shuffled off to the pressbox until another injury forced the coaching staff to put him back in. At which point he played so scared and tentative he was no longer effective.

Its too bad. I was over the moon when we got him at 17. His stock had dropped tremendously that year due to mono. At one point he was touted as a top 3 pick. I thought we had gotten the steal of the draft. Sadly, he just hasn't made that leap yet. But I'll be damned if I want to see this team give up on another developing but slightly under performing defenseman (Stralman, Richardson, Jason Smith, Randy Carlyle FFS) for a quick fix or because some pinhead coach doesn't like playing kids. Give him a full season with some PP time and let him sink or swim. Jesus, its probably not going to blow our playoff chances. He's not THAT bad. I'm still convinced he's got top 4 talent.

The problem with Lilly is that he does nothing exceptionally that would lead you to want to keep him long term. He isn't an offense first guy...he isn't a defense first guy...he is basically Connor Timmins with more kicks at the can in this organization. There is no bright spot to say that he can bring the other side of his game around. To quote our dearly beloved Keefe when he talked to Jimmy Vesey in the Amazon Prime fiasco: "You're just kind of vanilla"

I heard 2 different hockey media (Sportsnet and TSN) speculate (cynically) that TOR might fetch somewhere between a bag of pucks and a 6th round pick for Lil.

He's nothing like timmins at all actually he's an actual 2 way dman that gradually improves his game I think he'd take off under berube with an extra 5 pounds of muscle too

Depends on cost for me, he's a bottom pair RD and he needs to be paid like one so between 1.5M-2M and if he wants to dig in for more he can bugger off basically

I think he'd get more than that, I'd be surprised if we couldn't get a 3rd for him

He's never given us trouble on resigning I doubt he wouldn't sign a 1 year 2mil contract but I think we'd regret it
