Post-Game Talk: Time to finish the story

There has been a few people around the team that say Hyman is "likely" done for the playoffs. I seriously doubt he comes back, but it IS possible that part way thru the finals, he gets a playing cast and it becomes a pain threshold thing. I wonder if it is possible if the finals go long enough.

Also, who comes out when Brown is back? The easy pick is JSkinner, but the LW/RW thing may be a factor. They may also think they have enough grit and could use his scoring ability. Nice problem to have.
Let the swelling go down naturally for the first week, then get a shot of cortisone which artificially takes away swelling and reduces pain... that's how they do it. And it's doable. He could play but with limited use of his hand, which would be heavily stabilized and protected with a cast.

I'd give Brown 14 days of recovery. Back for game three unless Skinner lights it up.

I think that ship sailed when the SCF start date was moved up to June 4 because both Conference Finals finished in 5. Hyman's chance to play rested on games being played in the 4th week of June, like last playoffs.

I hope I'm wrong.
Game 1: Wednesday, June 4 at 8 p.m.
Game 2: Friday, June 6 at 8 p.m.
Game 3: Monday, June 9 at 8 p.m.
Game 4: Thursday, June 12 at 8 p.m.
*Game 5: Saturday, June 14 at 8 p.m.
*Game 6: Tuesday, June 17 at 8 p.m.
*Game 7: Friday, June 20 at 8 p.m.

Game 6 and 7 are far away. Lots of 2 days rest between games.

How the hell can Pete DeBeor throw Jake Oettinger under the bus like that. I can't believe he pulled Otter after those two goals and then lit him up in the post game presser.

Gee, maybe if someone from Dallas on the ice was somewhere near their goalie they might have stopped one.

If Jim Nill doesn't fire DeBeor they have to move Oettinger. Shades of Patrick Roy.

So now the Oilers are back for a rematch versus the Florida Panthers. Edmonton has home ice advantage and a better, deeper team this time around.

Should be a fantastic series!!

GO OILERS!

This series went exactly as predicted. Prediction was Oilers in MAX 5 games.

Stars win 1 undeserving game as a comeback win in the 3rd. - Check
Oilers fully dominate 60 minutes in at least 2 games. - Check
Oilers win at least half the games where they don't fully dominate for 60 minutes. - Check
Oilers shut down Mikko (like they usually do) and the Stars offense dries up. - Check
Everyone saying this could easily have been Oilers in 4. - Check

Not sure why anyone thought this series would go longer than 5 games.

Brown will be back for game 1. They already said he would have been ready for game 7 this round if needed.

Some historic names there though to be honest I had never heard of Jimmy Skinner. Seems he was the Red wings Coach for Howe's last two cups.

What makes this even more notable is the fact that other than Scotty Bowman the other guys did this in a 6 team league. That means they only had to win one round. And Bowman did it with the Blues in the weird system where the expansion teams played one another before the cup.
Great context.

I thought Kulak was our worst defender in the 1st & 2nd period, but turned it around in the 3rd when he had to so, that was a good sign.

TBF, some of his struggles could have been due to some bad ice.
Its somewhat overstated. Dallas forecheck was pretty good at times when they arrived (their dumps were generally bad and a poor strategy against us. ) But when they get to pucks and have options sealed the turnovers were happening with different D. So pretty much forced errors when they occurred. But Dallas would have to commit 3 forwards high to win puck battles and sometimes a d sealing haffboards. When it doesn't work thats a whole lot of players forward for Dallas.

Dallas deployment of this was a silly strategy and I'm sure the players have been confused why it was still being used against the Oilers. Our D transition and strength is simply too good for this to be very effective. Large segments of games Dallas was just giving puck away with the dump ins. Its a strange strategy for a club that went out and bought Rantanen, that has Duchene, Hintz, Heiskanen, Harley who should be able to gain lines and setup. Once Dallas were established in our zone they tended to be a problem, but mostly a peripheral and contained problem.

When we talk about one or other of our D struggling in GDT's its in the milieu of our D being GREAT!

Does anyone know how the presale works this year, do they send out codes to season seat holders again?

STH get a unique code. I just hit the purchase button as I’m curious. 653 people in front of me right now for ST 4 game package presales. STH can buy up to 4 - 4 game packages. Ends at 10:30.

Then it’s individual ST pregame sales. STH can buy up to 4 tix per game. Ends at noon. At noon the Remainder on sale to the public. I doubt there will be many left but if you want my code DM me. I have my seasons tickets so I’ll be in my seats!!

In 3 rounds of playoffs count how few times our D are giving the puck away or missing passes or getting picked or fanning on passes or making any errors.

The Oilers game this postseason, the D have been critical to it, and that we have zero weak pairs. Every pair can hold their end up. Oppoenents can't match and get time against a lesser D pair. All our pairs can play, and play well.

I'll say it again this is the best overall D core an Oilers club has ever had. 8 of our D now would be playing above 4 of the D we had say even a few years ago.

Even more baffling was hearing sports media say today that "Nill deserves no blame if they lose tonight"

How is that so? Probably the worst D corps of the 4 remaining teams, and they never make it past the WCF (aside from the bubble year)

It isn't just that it sucks, it's how it sucks. Multi year bad deals for Dumba and Lybushkin, then perhaps the biggest sin was dumping a 1st for a D man that doesn't appear to be an NHLer in Lindqvist. Lindell is on a dog of a contract too and he sucks.

His handling of the defence is honestly fireable. The fact that Petrovic is in the playoffs two years in a row says it all.

Why even say it at all? What purpose does trashing your goalie do?
What purpose does angry reaction occur in the heat of the moment. Anger isn't purposeful and all Humans have it. We lose it at times, make mistakes in anger, ruin things in anger. Its part of the human condition. Little purpose is served by it, but its people being human, making mistakes.

That said Ott was horrible and he'd be the first to say it I would hope. Look, the ONLY advantage Stars were supposed to have over us this postseason and last was goaltending. Yet Ott has managed to be the worst goalie in either series. The worst, and consistently.

People here were trashing Ott constantly saying he's nothing, plays small. I couldn't believe myself that he's 6ft 6. he's very ineffective using his size. I think the Oilers intimidate him and he tends to crawl in his cage against us. Perhaps strangely he doesn't have any trouble with Colorado.

Our D is somehow being so underrated in all of this.

They move the puck so quickly the other team doesn't seem to have any chance to set anything up.

We have 3 pairs that are like trying to punch water. They're so fluid and quick.
