Time to discuss Dylan Samberg

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

He has to be the most underrated D-man in the league at the moment.

By advanced metrics he's been one of the best D-man in the league this year at shutting down players while also moving the puck offensively. 2pt Game last night where he scored the OT game winner.

As for the most underrated D-Man, you can also add that Johansson kid in Detroit, anyone see his goal last night?

I remember he was a throw-in on many trade proposals from other teams, nobody seemed to see the potential like we did. Samberg developed the right way and our left side is as good as it’s ever been, he deserves to be paid. I’d give him and Pionk the same 7-year deal to keep them Jets as long as they want to be.

I truly doubt we would be saying any good things about him if he was playing on the Sharks or Hawks. It helps when you are playing on a team with lots of depth and one of the best goalies in the league

People will see how valuable guys like Samberg are and then complain when a team drafts a guy with the same profile (Simashev) highly.

His on-ice 5v5 S% is the lowest on anyone on the team.

There goes that theory of yours.

He's the prototyping defensive D-man to me. Big enough to never really be at a disadvantage physically, high defensive hockey IQ, good skater, good enough puck mover. The 2nd pairing for the Jets has been a big reason why they've been successful, and IMO he's the more important piece of that pairing than is Pionk.

There’s a defenseman who’s bad on the Jets and plays all the time, his name is Logan Stanley and it’s pretty clear Samberg is good because he’s good and Stanley is bad and the team isn’t changing that

Rising tide lifts all boats.

Not sure if Samberg is a boat, or the Tide.
Samberg has been a steamboat since college. Many forget that he was a stud on the powerhouse UMD team in the NCAA and with the US u-20 world Junior team.

Mitch Brown wrote a really good scouting article about him at the college level saying he had all the makings of a top shutdown D at the NHL level.

Many in the US and Canada national media and fans just don't know him because they don't watch the Jets much and only look at point totals. Many astute fans and team reporters expected him to be a strong top 4 D, and he's more than fulfilled expectations this season. He's trending toward Slavin / Vlasic levels and is a big reason why the Jets are so good (and underrated).

By the way, the Jets have another terrific D prospect on the horizon, who is very strong defensively: Elias Salomonsson. You might not have heard of him from the pundits because his calling card is defense and he's with the Winnipeg organization.

I would love to see the jets play in front of say Skinner from Edmonton and how bad their numbers would be

Stanley hasn't played since Schenn arrived.
The coaching staff seemed to be gifting him a spot ahead of Miller, Fleury & Heinola all season because of his size.
But now that we have Schenn, Stanley has rightly been pushed below Fleury and Miller.
I thought we needed to pick up 2 D to get Stan out of the line up but apparently not.
