Post-Game Talk: Time to cut the moustache

It’s ridiculous. All teams make mistakes. The difference is that other goalies can make saves.

Even when the Oilers limit high danger chances, Skinner lets the few that do happen in.

If the expectation is that the Oilers have to play error free hockey then we might as well pack it in.
It’s not high danger chances, is uncovered wide open looks, often rush chances and odd man breaks. Skinner has been bad, but this is well beyond “high danger” where a guy is covering someone in the slot and he still gets a shot off and beats the goalie.

Watch every goal against from the last two weeks and ask if this is a reasonable level of defensive attention from an NHL level skater group.

Not mistakes, systemic issues and getting caught up ice. I’ll forgive mistakes, but these are the same plays over and over, the league watches video and everyone knows how to get wide open shots on a shaky goalie.

Having spent the last couple of weeks watching other games, other teams get saves even on shots like those outlined in your post.

Skinner is not good.

If you go back and watch the highlights from the playoffs, especially after the Vancouver series, you'll rarely see the "This guy scored" goal as the team was almost completely airtight in their own end. How did nobody pick up Wyatt Johnston on the first goal against? That's arguably the Stars' most dangerous sniper.

This board is being lazy. This current roster? Jackson f***ed it up in the 5 days after July 1. Skinner and Arvidsson should never have been signed. My hand goes up where I thought they would good moves but like many I asked how do we sign the two players the blues stole from us. We couldn't blame Jackson or Bowman?

How many f***ing injured players have the oilers traded for this year.

Our cupboards are nearly empty for a reason.

But go ahead and stick to it is Skinner and the goalies coaches fault.

The list goes on abd our D still lacks so much.

The problems go beyond Skinner and the goalie coach. But it is easier for this board...day in and day out to say it is all them every

Every lose we have it is the same complaint about Skinner and the coach.

We are 41-25-5. I guess they had nothing to do with the 41 wins?

We are in cap and we will be in cap hell this time next

Problems with how this team was built is obvious.
Pickard has 17 wins, almost as many as not my fault Skinner in less then half the games

Not my fault Skinner is .500 winning percentage right now. We wouldn’t be in the playoffs without Pickards record.

The issue is not my fault Skinner, that’s it’s that’s all. He’s the worst goalie in the league. Biggest fraud the league, and it’s not even close at this point.

Credit to the Oilers for not giving up but they still put up offense only when the game was out of reach. I can't remember the last time Janmark, Podz, Kapenan or Ryan scored. RNH was also back to being mostly invisible too. Perry being more effective than half our forwards is great for him but deeply concerning for the team.
There is more to offense than goals scored. Your bolded statement might have had more relevance if the Oilers had generated little until late in the game with the Stars taking their foot off the gas. The reality is that the Oilers dominated the early part of the games and the opposition goalie stood on his head.

Didn't like the hire from day 1. They replaced Holland by bringing in Holland 2.0 who covered up a sexual assault assault scandal. Galaxy brain management from this group. Incredible stuff.
Even if you put aside the Kyle Beech stuff (which we really shouldn't but the Oilers definitely don't care), he more or less singlehandedly f***ed the Blackhawks with a litany of bad trades/signings that they're still paying for. I mean we thought the guy that signed the Seth Jones contract was a good hire? This is the guy we're trusting with the McDavid and Bouchard extensions?

Stated before that I couldn’t understand not adding a depth veteran goaltender at the deadline.
As to Stuart me thinks that his slowness is caused by an unawareness of what’s going on in front of him.
Being “in the moment “ starts by getting out of your head so that you recognize the danger of other players getting in position for rebounds or that the puck carrier has no options and then focus just on him.Ottenger obviously was in the zone and put himself in position to respond to those dangerous situations.I personally would give Rodrigues a look because he is a lot quicker than what we have and judging him by his numbers on the farm team is unfair considering we don’t know if the quality of the team in front of him.

I've been saying all season that this forward corps outside of McDavid and Draisatl shouldn't scare anyone. They seriously struggle to produce offense. How many games have we won this year when we put up 40 shots?
Weird time to bitch about that. Averaging about 4 goals a game since the big guys went down.

It’s keeping the puck out that’s been the issue.

This story has repeated itself so many times this year (including earlier against the exact same team) that I'm not buying it anymore. Put the puck in the net. You did 5 times against the same goalie not that long ago. I recognize that losing McDavid and Draisatl is tough to overcome but this "we got goalie'd" excuse is becoming old. Connor Brown, Mattias Janmark, Derek Ryan, just one of those depth forwards scoring early might have changed the game. But they never do. This team is too reliant on their top forwards to be a big threat in the playoffs.

Great effort again last night. Proud of the boys despite the loss. If we get some finish in the first half, we probably take the dubya. Stewed Shitnner rancid on the 2nd and 3rd goals. Not only can he not move laterally, but he never anticipates _having_ to move laterally, so he's always slow to react. His brain is fried, his mechanics are fried.

Lol blaming the forwards who put up 3 goals against Dallas without their 2 best centres is beyond ridiculous.

Bowman was negligent at the trade deadline. He should be fired for not bringing in another goaltender.

Detroit brought in a third goalie and they are not even a playoff off team lol. Mrazek would have thrived in this system.

Agreed, Schwartz also should have been fired yesterday (years ago). They need a new voice in the goaltending department that will evaluate and nurture real goaltending talent
I don't blame Stu at all for the goaltending situation. It wasn't his job to go out and sign/trade/manufacture a 3rd goalie. That was the job of a very stubborn management team who apparently had something to prove-- as was the case with Holland and as is the case with Bowman/Jackson.

Its also interesting that the Edmonton media basically refuse to acknowledge the problem in net. I don't understand the cheerleader stuff.

Well, the guys will probably win tonight in Seattle and be one step closer to the playoffs. The division title looks to be fading into the rear view mirror.

That's true. I'm not contesting that. But you've got a shaky goalie so yeah, all ahead full and let Mr. Swiss Cheese clean up at the back.

Listening to GYB and I see the headline of the video is "Open Season in the Oilers Crease" so I think, oh finally their group is going to address the goaltending concerns, and instead it's Rishaug going on a rant about why the team didn't pound the Stars players after Skinner got bumped a few times and that's the big issue with this team. O....k

Same thing happened to me. Both of those plays were giant nothing-burgers as far as I'm concerned.

Remember when all of these talking-heads ran Koskinen out of town? If we received the same quality of netminding that he provided, this team is at least 10 points higher in the standings. For some reason though, Mr. Mustache is absolutely immune to criticism.

To play devil’s advocate, Bowman didn’t have a bad deadline. Made good trades and other than the first for Walman, didn’t give away the store.

Getting a Goalie was problematic due to the cap, and the lack of goalies on the trade market. Give quality assets for a guy like Mrazek and a second team to eat cap wasn’t going to move the needle.

None of us like this guy due to past history both as a GM and the coverup, but maybe judge him for the moves he makes.

This summer and the offer sheets are solely on Jackson.

I've said this countless times even if this team had Shesterkin they'd be like the first half of the season Rangers a team that won the Presidents Trophy last year. But couldn't find their way out of a wet paper bag to win games with one of the best goalies (if not the best) in the league.

Defensemen square dancing and fire drills in the slot need to be addressed. This is the same as Woody's man on man coverage that got exposed when teams found out that if they cycled the puck it led to wide open chances in the slot. Knobs passive zone coverage leads to teams having free reign in the slot the most dangerous part of the ice.
