That Debrusk was even an NHL player is kind of embarrassing. he sure ate a lot of punches too. I hear steel marbles rolling around his head when he talks. Soemthing ain't right.

That was honestly one of the worst goals I've ever seen an NHL goaltenders give up. Probably the worst, outside of fluky bullshit.

The management group have opted to run with an unathletic, mid-level goalie that shouldn't be an NHL starter for a wanna be Cup contender. This team needed to upgrade its goaltending and instead spent it all on non-driving small forwards.

Agreed, Schwartz also should have been fired yesterday (years ago). They need a new voice in the goaltending department that will evaluate and nurture real goaltending talent

This management is virtually the same as the previous two sets of management. Absolutely no proactivity at all. They let Holloway and Broberg go for basically nothing. The only moves Bowman made all year prior to the TDL was scouring the waiver wire and other non-NHL players like Klingberg. And the only real addition at the trade deadline was Walman. He's fine but I'm not sure he addresses any needs. We're hoping and praying that Frederic and Kane are needle movers come playoff time but by then it might be too late for this team.

Current management decided that despite being an alright team all year, that they were every bit as good as the team that nearly won it all last year. Well, come to find out that they're not. And now we're sitting third place in the division, with virtually no hope of catching Vegas. And we might not even catch the Kings as we don't have any tiebreakers on them.

BowJack are absolutely responsible for this team. They went backwards in the offseason and all throughout the year. The fanbase screamed at them to upgrade between the pipes and they stood pat all year. Colorado went out and got not one but two goalies while Bowman twiddled his thumbs like the idiot he is. I could care less if he was just hired. If this team doesn't win the Cup this year, he should be gone. Period.

I'm just pointing out that Holland stupidly signing Nurse to a 2nd bridge contract pre-plandemic isn't relevant to critiques of the current management group.

i like the effort from the team as a whole, for basically the entire game. The PP is going to struggle, when you take out 29 and 97, that's just a major hole for a PP that has 90% of the offence go thru those 2. So, I get the PP struggles, it'd be tough for any team to get over that. As for Stu, not any horrible goals, but, also not enough stops. If you get 1 more save, it's ok-ish, 2 more saves, his night is good-ish, 3 more saves, his night is great-ish, 4 more saves, he's perfect. He's just not enough for the majority of games this season, I keep waiting for him to find his game from when he plays well, for one or 2 more stops a night, and they just haven't been coming. If this play keeps up, with Pics will have to take over as the 1A, or Stu will need to have the shortest leash possible in the playoffs - 1 loss, unless he's one of the 3 stars, and then Pics goes in.

One thing is for sure, they are going to HAVE to find a couple new goalies for the team and system this summer.

All in all, tonight was a good game and effort for the large majority of the skaters.

They need better talent in net and not a lack of strategy to retread old goalies or pin their hopes on a flawed system developed guy who's a 1 in 10 year success. This is a failed organizational strategy that's been a problem, along with wobbly team defending every year over multiple coaches. Team highs and major lows. Schwartz's fireable offense with Holland Jr. was saying Jeff Campbell is the guy to backstop 5 years of precious winning window time. But he's not going to miraculously turn Skinner into a modern era athletic, agile goaltender. No one is going to.

Just to add Skinner was being overhyped when people were clamouring for him when unhappy with Koskinen and Smith.

I think this team is definitely good enough defensively to win a cup... it's likely their key strength in fact... even more so than their team offense which is overly dependent on McDrai.

Tonight's game was a good example... sure they had some defensive breakdowns but they far out-chanced Dallas who are considered one of the top teams in the NHL.

Difference was the goaltending. Oettinger has shit games as well but when he's on he's very good. Skinner has those elite type games very few and far between.

Goaltending for the Oilers is definitely subpar.

Team defense is above average imo and offense is likely average... but with McDrai firing on all cylinders they can score goals with any team in the league. It's just that when you push those 2 hard... well you get what's happening now... 2 burnt out/injured players who are the key to the offensive success of this team.

The team has actually pulled together pretty well in their absence but of course team offensive depth has been an issue. If they can get that going (and they have been lately)... this team stands a decent chance at doing something in the playoffs "IF" Pickard can supply at least average goaltending. That's a very BIG "IF" of course but it's basically their only hope at this stage as there's no cavalry in net coming to help them.

I still do not get not adding anyone at the deadline, there had to be a guy or 2, that were at least, possible upgrades. Change of scenery guy, competition, emergency in case of an injury. I though Lyon from Detroit, but, from what I heard Detroit didn't want to move him. Could they of made a deal that worked to bring in Talbot, I know he has another year, and they would of needed some salary retained, that probably scared the Oil off. But if they can't find a way to make Stu and Picks work, and this team goes out early, due to goaltending, there are going to be some major questions asked by the boss, or at least I hope there is.

What is also a major factor that scares me is, this team's management and scouts and coaches are the ones who have continued to be wrong about our goaltending selections, both pro and amateur, how can we trust them to get it right this summer, and in the future? This group are ones who decided to offer Campbell all that money, sure Holland is gone, but lots of the people who are still here and still have a lot of say in who pursue for our net minders are still here and have plenty to say. The people who decided to not upgrade of Stu/Picks, who thought Delia and Rodrigue were a good enough back up plan/tandem in the AHL in case of injuries or struggles by the tandem in the NHL. I don't exactly trust this group, especially when it comes to finding goalies. Why trust them again this summer, based on their track record?

One thing is for sure, this group seems to like to double down, if not, triple down on their bad decisions and mistakes. There had to be someone out there that was cheap, both in acquisition cost and cheap enough to fit under our cap at the deadline. Even Jack Campbell would of been better than doing nothing. Anything, was better than doing absolutely nothing. I wasn't looking for Gibson deal, or anything that was that big of a long shot or gamble, just a couple of average back ups, who have been starters in the past. Doing nothing was a way bigger gamble, and it looks like it will probably be this team's achilles heal.

For sure, but he was our magic beans, our lottery ticket, the next unknown. He had a solid rookie year in a tough situation, before he was probably ready for it. He even had some good moments in the playoffs, not consistent enough, but some games where he stepped up and played very well. A lot of us were hoping he would find a way to build on the good parts, find some better mobility and movement, find a way find more saves, more consistency, less bad goals. He has not shown that growth this season, in fact, it's been a step back. There are more questions with his game now, than at any point in his past as a pro. If he was a pending UFA this summer, I don't know what kind of deal he'd get out there. Probably a one year deal, and I can't imagine it would be for any team expecting him to be their starting goalie.

This board is being lazy. This current roster? Jackson f***ed it up in the 5 days after July 1. Skinner and Arvidsson should never have been signed. My hand goes up where I thought they would good moves but like many I asked how do we sign the two players the blues stole from us. We couldn't blame Jackson or Bowman?

How many f***ing injured players have the oilers traded for this year.

I agree. He's regressing so much and outright costing the team games. Also, I think his stats are misleading because aside from that hot run between November to January, where the team mostly played airtight D, he's been horrible. He was only slightly above Georgiev for worst GSAx in the entire league at the start of the season, so he pretty much cost us a few games on his own earlier this year. Then even when he was "playing well" he was still too often putting the team down by three in the first period and forcing McDrai to claw us back to victory. I think for most of this season you could put Skinner on any non-playoff team and he'd be demoted to the AHL within a month. He's not even an average backup level goalie at this point.
