Don't look now, but both the San Jose Sharks and Anaheim Ducks are gaining ground on the Los Angeles Kings in the Pacific Division standings. Both the Sharks and Ducks are hot, while the Kings are just 2-4-0 in their last six games, and 4-5-0 in their last nine.

The Kings have played poorly of late, getting away from their game plan by a fairly wide margin in most of their recent losses.

What gives? What needs to be fixed and how? Dustin Brown and head coach Darryl Sutter shared their thoughts in...

Time For LA Kings To Press The Reset Button

Kings won't finish first in the division by seasons end. They'll go in as the 3rd seed in the Pacific en route to a Stanley Cup final appearance vs the Capitals.

Ugh, sensationalist clickbait titles.

It's not that either, hitting reset in a sporting context simply means getting back to basics.

I'm not sure if it's a language/idiom issue here or what but I don't see any reasonable way to interpret the title as sensationalist.

It's a small slump. We aren't going to go 82-0 or even 63-19, ever. I think it will fix by itself.

Here is a sensationalist title:

After one game losing streak, The Kings players are ready to sell their kidneys for a win

"Kings Organization Prepares to Fold After Loss to Cross Town Rivals, Players to Be Sold to Circus"

The LA Kings abdicate to Jesus after loss. John the Baptist named Captain

The Kings are kind of balancing out from a pretty hot start. I don't think the Kings are as bad as they have played the last 10-15 games, but I think they overachieved a bit earlier in the season.

Still a very good team, but not sure if the Kings are a top 5 regular season team, still have some major issues on the blueline and on the wing outside of 17 and 73.

Yeah, they won some games they 'should' have lost earlier, and have lost some games they 'should' have won recently. I think some of the issues really came to light and I'm encouraged by Sutter's practices the last few days.

I also know not many are a fan of the PDO stat but since the new year they're rocking a league low 96.5 due to a third worst shooting percentage 5.5 and 5th worst save percentage of 91. That's bound to correct quite a bit with our play. In contrast, until new years, the stats would suggest we were exactly where we should be when we were just under middle of the pack with 99 or so (kings are typically a bit under 100 due to deflated save and shooting percentages).

back to basics: regular season doesn't really matter unless the team fails to make it to the playoffs. it happened to lak last season, so maybe that's why we're a bit sensitive here, me included. the last road trip was ok and the next one should be ok as well, meanwhile nothing drastic happened with the game or the stats. but i do agree with racoon here (quote: "...hitting reset in a sporting context simply means getting back to basics...."). one element about road trips is saving the energy, being conservative about it, and the best way to achieve that is to play simple "back to basics" hockey. plus lak is pretty good in this element as well, often they are rewarded just for going one step back and to play a simple game, actually i guess this is quite a crucial part of the "system", being able to do it on regular basis. well, imo that's what "reset" means in this context.

"Clickbait?" Seriously? Educated guess is that you didn't even read the story.

Reacting without reading the story is the Internet version of premature (insert word that starts with e and ends with jaculation)

Care to try again?

Yeah, as I'm busier with real life, I actually own up the fact I associate the word "reset" to "going back to square one" to "scorched earth" rebuilds in the same sporting context, prior to even joining HFBoards altogether.

And for the record, I did read it completely on the first go.

PS: Lieutenant Mittens, if you're going to post some Assetati shenanigans, go do it in someone's casting couch while you scream "Babbo, pietà, pietà!", and not on this thread. And have a Sprite.

I guess you missed Sutter mentioning the need to reset, as I reported in the story.
