Player Discussion Tim Stützle - (C) - Part VI

Gallagher is obsessed with him. Like, I guess he thinks he's the only player on our roster he has a shot of winning a fight against?
It's not an obsession, it's a directive. It's been obvious for awhile now. They have been told to go after Stu and not to worry about taking penalties. Not to worry about penalties in general, really...under the "refs can only call so many and we are the toilet seats so the refs will call less on us." banner. If anybody, insert certain person here, watches many of thier games, do they use the same play against other teams?

The Sens absolutely dominated the first 30 minutes of the games and the refs pretty much put their whistles away. Habs score to get within two, and come on a little, and suddenly they start calling penalties

Stutzle clearly gets in their head, and I love it. Specifically Gallagher. He always seems to be extra physical against Montreal and dumps Gallagher at least once a game.

He’s in a bit of a scoring slump, but he’s out there creating things. His zone entries are so good, he’ll come in on a one-on-five, play keep away until support comes, and then make a play.

Im not too worried cause he still creates but its weird he was over a ppg for most of the season and now he’s very cold

Been pretty quiet in the big games lately

Still my favorite but hopefully he takes over in the playoffs with Brady

It is an interesting phenomenon how different sets of eyes see the same thing and conclude radically different opinions. My eyes are saying his zone entries are far from good. For every time he enters the zone 1 on 5 and makes a play, he has 2 or 3 where he loses the puck quickly. It's even worse on the power play. His first half of the game last night was pretty bad from a puck possession standpoint. He made a couple of nice plays later on but overall, best I'd give him is a C-.

And a bit of a slump is a bit of an understatement. Sens need this guy to crank it up and fast.

We need a policeman to set them straight! A Bob Probert type who almost never lost a fight. The response so far is not acceptable; too passive reactive.

I agree with Conn Smytrhe who said "If you can't beat 'em in the alley, you can't beat 'em on the ice." We need a tougher team that plays a smart but physical game consistently. Too many soft players who cannot contribute much.

We need some players like we had in the past:

I didn't like that Stu let Gallagher sort of rag doll him after the scrum. Reminded me of the Sedins back in the day. He can't let someone manhandle him and do nothing.

I REALLY don't like that nobody on the Senators stepped up to make some runs at Gallagher. He is a star player, still young, and obviously not the type to muck it up.

Someone, anyone, should have run at Gallagher and made him drop the mitts at some point. If there is one thing missing from this group, it is that team nasty.

I saw it as discipline, Timmy didn’t want to draw a penalty. Timmy looked like he wanted to pound Gallaghers bald spot in but you could see the coaches words in Tommy’s head - and it’s why we are winning because the team and wins come first and not whatever Gallaghers bald spot was trying to accomplish there

I don't know. There is a fine line between discipline and being taken advantage of.

Stu was crosschecked by Anderson and then Gallagher 3 times as that scrum broke out.

To his credit, Perron seemed like he was coming in hard to get Gallagher, but got caught in the mix of bodies.

Plus, there was a lot of game left. You need to take runs at Suzuki, Hutson, etc...

If need Brady just to do the basics of team toughness, we are further away than I thought.

Well even Brady isn’t responding to things like that and that’s why we are winning - Tim Stutzle is a certified mental case and woild of eaten Gallagher as a schnitzel if Green let him but from Brady all the way through the lineup we have drawn the most penalties in the NHL this year for a reason, we don’t retaliate

And I don’t think anyone in Ottawa needs to see Gallagher get beaten - once I saw his bald spot I actually felt sorry for him and I think we all did. His hair is punishment enough

Haha. OK, we will disagree on the response of the team, but I was at the game and there was legit an audible *GASP* when Gallagher's helmet came off and that spot was on full display.

I'm not one to make fun of hair loss, but it seemed shocking to everyone.

I feel like that bald spot is screwing with the Habs juju and the good vibes they had going. I’m not sure what’s next for Gallagher, we see him differently now, the whole world does, he went from an NHL veteran to a dude who needs hair therapy with one helmet flip - its hard to be scary with an accountants bald spot when you’re 5’6” - he felt like thise old wrestlers who are old and out of shape but have nothing else to do so they just hang on and people start sticking thief bum cracks in their faces and they take it because it’s all they got

I think we saw last night, bald spot aside, that Stutzle will be a target in the playoffs & if we go after the other team's best players they will go after ours. Last night though when they went after Stutzle we should have gone after Suzuki, Caufield, Hudson & Matheson. We should not allow them to go after our best players without going after theirs. That is how it gets stopped, if we don't retaliate in kind they will continue to do it. Get them into a scrum & go after them in it as Gallagher did. I liked what I saw from Hodgson, that was a good scrap.

I like Timmy, think he'll bounce back with a good playoff performance, but I wish there was a way to trade Tim, 2 1st round picks and a 2nd round pick, for Bedard. McDavid / Matthews level hands. Needs to develop all round game, but will. I've always wanted him on my team since the world Jr's, more than any other player.

Yes, what a strange tangent for me to go on.
