Stutzle has to learn to manage the puck better, same for Chabot, these two simply give the puck away way too much & both make way too many mistakes & giveaways. Sanderson seems to be having a difficult season, he isn't having the impact he had last yr, something seems to be off with him too. They need these three to get it together. Norris is slowly coming back to form after being injured for two yrs although lately seems to be tired since he hasn't played a lot of hockey in the last two yrs. He's still a good player & still good at faceoffs & on the PP, I expect he'll improve as his stamina improves.

Clear top 8 to whom.

Maybe Boucher was part of Ottawas top 8
Yeah, drafting Sillinger was also fairly consensual at the time, so if the scouts felt strongly enough about drafting Boucher over Sillinger, what's to say they weren't feeling strongly enough about him over other players as well?

They've put similar stunts with JBD and Jarventie. Nothing would surprise me with these scouts.

I remember Dorion saying after the draft they wanted a right shot/right winger or something along those lines. Don’t think it was so much that they took him because of it, but I think he talked about it being a need.

Dumb move but if they were set on one then you’d think they would’ve taken Guenther if available. Not a lot of right shots in that area, Coronato was probably too small for their liking and most of the others like Sillinger were lefties.

IIRC There was a clear top 8 or 9 that year. A useless win streak when they were already out of contention put them just outside it.
True but the next 2 picks were Sillinger and Coronato .. both playing in the NHL and contributing.

Many misses in 2021 ; Sens might wear the crown though

Shooooooooooooooooot!!!!!

He came out of the gate this year shooting to score 50. And it was working. Then he stopped and now just passes and skates in circles. And it’s NOT working.

Shoot the damn puck.

Not sure what it is but he is very average in too many games.
im not sure what you mean by that to be honest

he seems to be the one creating plays in the offensive zone, just isnt shooting whatsoever (dont know if its injury or its him overthinking). Plus his linemates are not helping the situation too much as both are a couple of steps behind stutzle

we either need to get timmy a forward that can skate at the deadline or we need to stack our first line and hope the rest of the forwards can figure it out

Guenther was who I wanted & he was gone just before they picked. They didn't need a centre or LW they have plenty of them, they needed a RW & still do, now to replace Giroux in the top 9.

Stutzle on another note, is only 23 yrs old & still learning, the same can be said for Sanderson, it took some of their other guys five yrs in the NHL to start learning how to play the right way in the NHL. I expect he will get better as the team as a whole gets better & start playing the right way as they seem to be doing lately. It's a good sign that our young guys continue to get better & are trending in the right direction.

In his last 19 games he has 5 goals and 4 assists. Sure he looks great skating around with the puck but most times nothing comes of it other than a turnover or missed pass. Even if his linemates are a problem he should be able to generate his own offense but in 14 of those games he has had 2 shots or less.

I wonder if his wrist/hand is hurt again. I’m pretty sure he said himself that is why he stopped shooting last season.

has to be.

i remember an interview with alfredsson saying that when he first came over he was pass first but that coaches kept telling him to shoot more since he had a good shot and when he started and worked on being able to to score from distance it changed his game.

im sure thats the same advice every coach and alfredsson is giving him, so him passing up these chances has to be something with his hands.

do not get me wrong at all, the lack of shooting is a problem. At the same time i do believe its because of his linemates. However by now he should have adapted and just be consistently shooting the puck

It just seems like he is trying to get the puck in the perfect position for his linemates to do something with (seems to be a lack of trust that his linemates would be able to do anything on their own) which leads to the turnover or missed pass

Now if this keeps happening on a line with brady and bath then there is a bigger issue

Not good enough, plain and simple. He needs to put points on the board consistently and he isn't doing that right now.

He has the capacity to be a difference maker every night, but far too often he isn't. You can see he is getting frustrated, but he is also getting very predictable. He skates wide and curls or he goes around the net and by the time he is in a shooting position he is off balance with his hands extended as far as they can be, so he can't get a shot off. When he is in a position for a good shot, he defers.

He needs some confidence and he needs to start driving the net when he goes wide. Simplify, simplify, simplify.

Same with our PP! Pucks and bodies at the net, with a dog mentality.

Stutzle has 45 points in 47 games. He is 32nd in the league in scoring.

He is not the dominant playmaking centre I thought he would be.

He is the epitome of the Senators: Average.

His decision making is so incredibly frustrating. He has the ability to put himself in excellent positions but seems to always try to find a hard pass when he should shoot the puck and vice versa.

Internally screamed when he made an impossible, way too hard pass to Gaudette just after the second goal(think it was). He had an absolute golden opportunity to shoot himself, and a goal was exactly what we needed at that time.

I wouldn't call him average. He's still 16th in scoring among centres. He's statistically still a top line centre, but he was producing at an elite (closer to top 10 is what I consider elite) for the first 30ish games of the season. As soon as he gets slightly above average wingers I'd be on him exploding for points

stutzle is pretty dominant, few in the league can generate chances as easily as Stutzle.

it's just that the end product is not there and he doesn't have any linemates who have an end product either.
