We're playing Giroux for the faceoffs.

Last season leaders with more than 1,000 faceoffs taken:

1. Tavares
2. Trotchek
3. Crosby
4. Staal
5. Giroux

Stutzle is in a place where he has to learn by watching, talking with and practicing with Giroux.

It's just a reality. Do you take a guy who is essentially top 5 in the league or do you let Stutzle learn? When you're DJ on the hotseat or when you're Green trying to win games... you put Giroux in the circle. If you're Jacques Martin trying to salvage the season and reinforce good habits, you put Giroux in the circle too.

All you need to do is make sure Stutzle is learning from Giroux for when Giroux eventually retires a few years from now.

We are all so glad we picked Tim Stutzle in the 2020 draft instead of Byfield.
Although we made a mistake picking Jarventie instead of Peterka who was an obvious pick because of the fact he played well with Timmy at the World Juniors.

Is Timmy at C no longer an option?

In 3 games, he has a faceoff % of 15 percent! Lowest for # 1 C in the league. He has won only 3 out of 20 face-offs.

After the faceoff he plays center for the entire shift. He’s a center.

Too bad we didn't pick Matthews instead of Logan Brown, or McDavid instead of Chabot, what were we thinking...

Meh. We wouldn't have the cap space to keep them anyways.

I'd still like to see a lot more from Tim. Whereas Sanderson has shown quite frankly an incredible development path going into year 3, it feels like Stu has stagnated a bit. I'd argue he looks worse than he did 2 years ago actually.

His main flaw/weakness is his inability to protect the puck and stay in control and that hasn't really gotten any better. If he could improve that it would help the first line to cycle way better. From a physical standpoint he's weak for a 1C.

On the bright side, his wrist injury is long past him. Shooting way more this year.

I'd still like to see a lot more from Tim. Whereas Sanderson has shown quite frankly an incredible development path going into year 3, it feels like Stu has stagnated a bit. I'd argue he looks worse than he did 2 years ago actually.

I think Stutzle has shown improvement at being a more reliable center. Right now he is trying to find a balance of creating offense and being responsible, I would say the same for Tkachuk. I don't remember any moments he has had that made me pull my hair out yet. The puck management has been a lot better for me.

He won't develop into an elite center without getting his balance issues under control.

He's still very young but I'm starting to think it's less of a strength issue and more of a problem with the way he skates.

Disagree on Timmy, he definitely needs to improve face offs, but the leaders in that are generally vets it seems.

Physicality wise, seems stronger this year, I think he’s been strong this year, and throwing around his weight.
So checked his stats, tied for the team league in hits.

It’s his constant changing of direction, and is always on his edges,
That’s where I think the “balance” takes comes from.

the first few games Tkachuk and Giroux were not helping him much..
Lots of one and dones , not much sustained zone time.
They started slow imo whereas Jimi came out of the gates ready to go.

Not seeing the backbreaking giveaways and trying to do too much too often this season. When things start really clicking for him the 3 and 4 pt games will come.

Being more consistent and limiting his games where he costs the team is key for him, and we are seeing that so far this season. Adding some physicality as well.
