From what I heard we preferred Stutzle but wouldn’t have passed on Byfield if Timmy went #2.

Sanderson was #4.
I find that so odd considering the team we are trying to build I feel like byfield fits in so perfectly with his length and size. But alas we are where we are.

It was pretty cool to see the relationship between Timmy and the Killer Wolf. Also neat to hear Killer say that he was hoping that Timmy would go to Ottawa.

Stutzle has better motor and more high end compete than Byfield does which fits into the type of team they are trying to build.

Shouldn't be overly shocking. McKenzie had Timmy at 2. Perhaps a bit of a reach with Sanderson at 5, but time will tell.

But Stutzle was a riser throughout the year, which is something they have always put the most value on.

He’s also a better hockey player overall.

I hear that Mannheim asked Senators one million dollars to release Tim Stützle from his contract. Melnyk does not want to pay that amount and Dorion and team's lawyers are negotiating right now.
That's why there is a delay and we could not see him playing this season. Actually he is ready to go to world juniors. Mannheim looks at it as a transfer fee.........and they are very steep in Europe. Especially in European soccer, where the average of a transfer fee for the medium impact player is 3 to 5 million euros. Basically Mannheim is selling a player to another club.

Mannheim would be pretty darn stupid to play hardball in this scenario.

That is if they want to have any other top prospects play for them in the next 10 years. What high end prospect (Stuetzle calibre) would join a team if they knew that club was going to block or slow their path to the NHL and huge dollars?

Spoiler alert!! The answer is none.

This guy is going to be an absolute star for us. Him, Tkachuk and Chabot leading the way will give this team not only so much skill but so much character; all three guys are real passionate and have that lighthearted part to their personality to continue to push themselves and still maintain the chip on their shoulder--not be rattled.

I’ve never been so proud to welcome someone to our Franchise.

He will be our saviour.

I truly believe that saviour is Tkachuk. But Stuetzle will be our Kane. He'll be our superstar. Tkachuk is our heart and soul. Both crucial elements a team needs to be near the top for a long time.

So... Poor man's Hawks core?

Tkachuk - Toews
Stuetzle - Kane
Chabot - Keith
Sanderson - Seabrook

Dorion saying that he was happy with pick #3 and not mentioning pick #5 during the “mock draft showcase” reiterates that the team sees Sanderson > Raymond.

He signed his extension a year and a half ago, before his draft year even started. Nobody, likely including Stutzle himself, thought he'd be an NHL candidate as an 18 year old.
And that the Draft would be held in October thereby missing the August 15 cutoff. as per The Athletic’s Corey Pronman: “a player with a valid European contract for the 2020-21 season cannot be signed to an NHL contract after Aug. 15.” The signing window apparently opens again at the end of the DEL season. Do we know of any europeans playing e.g Raymond, Holtz, Lundell that have signed ELCs?

Pronman's thing confirmed by Daly

"NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly confirmed to Pronman that this would remain true for this year. The signing window would reopen whenever the player’s respective international federation released him, be it at the conclusion of the player’s team’s season or, if he is invited to the IIHF World Championship, at the conclusion of that tournament. These rules are designed to give European teams roster certainty once a season is underway."

So the path of least resistance is to just let him play in the DEL this year.
