That's fair, I don't know enough about the Edmonton media to comment.
But I saw it first-hand here in Vancouver, where for the first half or so of Benning's tenure, the media wasn't hard enough on management which was part of the reason the fans were hard enough on management, which is why Benning was able to keep his job as long as he did.
The players do deserve their fair share of the blame but if the media refuses to look at management and ownership, that is sad.
The whole thing, I think, is rotten to the core. Everyone involved from top to bottom doesn't give a damn, and is content to just kick back and milk the city and its people for as much as they can. It wouldn't surprise me if Katz throws up his hands after McDrai walk and just sells everything. He really only cared about the real estate, anyway. Had Gretzky help him blackmail the city with those trips to Seattle to build him a new arena with all the money going to his coffers, not the city's, after all. He'll make quite the pretty penny and leave the scorched earth once called the Oilers brand for the new owners to struggle with, because I could see the Oilers hitting Elkimos level apathy after all's said and done. I mean, sure, sure, you'd always have the diehards who are loyal to the crest, but in these uncertain times, how many more are gonna just say screw it and bounce? It's hard enough to buy even a hot dog at Rogers, let alone a ticket.
Spector's to sports journalism what Meltzer is to wrestling: basically a glorified pest who's helped sink the business they claim to be so great at covering.Pretty funny response from Peel, and hes 100% right for once. Spector is a moron, and thats clear to me even though I am not an Oilers fan. I have 0 respect for Peel though, the man is to refereeing and Twitter what Spector is to sports journalism.
Always funny to see two buffoons go at it though.
