Poni seems to have net presence which the Jets seem to lack this season. Both his goals were because he was parked in front of the net. And he is always first to the puck in the dump in. I guess I'm jumping on Tangradi too early but out of the 4 lines, the Tangradi - Jokinen - Wellwood line is the weakest... IMO

wright 22, tangredi 24, wright plays every game for us and has done a good job in his role, tangredi in his second game with us shows little but stays in, to me that's not how you coach

Tangradi has played 2 games. I thought he was very good in the Pittsburgh game and solid in todays game. What exactly did Ponikarovsky do as a Jet for you to wish he was still here?

I'm with you Brogo.. I don't know if i just don't know how to watch hockey, or was looking at a different game, but i have had zero problems with tangradi.

I thought the tangradi jokinen wellwood line looked really good possession wise...were they out there for some goals against? I haven't checked yet.

As for wright vs tangradi...Again...i don't know what people are looking for from tangradi... i saw one small mistake from him in an otherwise solid game. Good hustle, worked along the boards, his line seemed to spend a lot of time in the O-zone.

made sense to me to not play the fourth at that point....

And the PK as well. If the PP and PK were 20% and 80%, the team would probably be above .500 right now.

Yes. And with league average goaltending throug the first 11 games, we'd be 8-2-1.

Aside from the occassional screw up on the PK, I actually think we've turned it around. We're a lot better than our results would show. Opposing teams announcers arre always surprised at how effective our kills have been given that our PK is ranked last in the league.

The PP is the polar opposite. We're way worse than our ranking.

I thought the effort was there tonight and we played great for 59 minutes. You can pick apart a couple bad plays here and there but realistically I think we have a great team who can really compete with anyone in this league. We directed 70 shots at their net tonight...and if we play the next 34 games with the effort we've played these last two, the scoring will come and the wins will come with it.

The only systemic problems we have, ones that will continue to lose us games if things don't change are the Power Play (0/12 in the last 4 games) and goaltending (which is improving.) The PP zone entries are just painful to watch and when we do get possesion in their zone, we don't get any shots.

100% agree with this post surge

I have no issues with the way Tangradi's played. But I also wouldn't mind Wright moving up a line. I'd actually like to see those two on Jokinen's wings, with Welly hitting the press box for a few and Puloso or Mittens coming in for fourth line duties. But I'm beginning to sound like a broken record.

I think Wright-Jokinen-Tangradi could be an impressive forechecking/momentum line that could pop a few goals.

One other thing....does anybody get that same sense of disappointment when the cycle works the puck to an open pointman and it's Stuart, who takes forever to wrist a shot back into the corner. I like Stuart, but between that and the stupid penalties....:shakehead

Although I gave Noel a bunch of credit on my last few posts, I still would like to know WTF Wellwood, Tangradi and Postma were doing out there with 1 minute left and Pavelec pulled?

I'm guessing they were just had a long shift and the puck was in the o-zone....but still.

samers.

I think the story of record right now, is we played like garbage for about 3-4 games and then corrected it. Unfortunately, we corrected it just time to meet a couple of really strong teams, so despite the changes, we still lost.

we play like we did tonight and against pittsburg against wsh, tampa, and florida, and we should be fine within our division.

I like what i've seen system/compete wise the last three games or so. The results will come.... they have to....right....right?

THANK YOU! This reminded me of something!

Regarding the tangradi, joki, wellwood line, i thought they had really good zone pressure, and managed to get in front of the net, and work the puck to the point for some good chances....

unfortunately it seemed like EVERY TIME, Stuart was the one that got it at the point, and god bless him for what he does, but he cannot hit the net with any consistancy.

I'd get so stoked and then see the number on the jersey and be like "great, another beauty setup to the D man, but the dman can't shoot"

I' can pick out 5 plays like that over the last two games that had it been literally any other d man (maybe not hainsy) on the point with it and it would have been a really good scoring chance.

we need to stop sugar coating everything.. oh we played well.. great.. we didnt get blown out..awesome.. what kind of talk is that? its like a consolation medal in a minor hockey tournament.. something trying to disguise how bad you are so kids dont cry.

bottom line is we are one of the 5 worst teams in the NHL. and if it wasnt for some solid home play we would have been last year too

goaltending is weak at best, we severely lack a pure goal scorer or two, our special teams are horrocious, and we continue to make the same mistakes we've made all season and even since last year.

all that negative stuff aside, I agree with many that we are not far away from being a decent team, prob just a few pieces and some consistency needed to help us win these close games.

but as it sits right now we are a bad team, and theres no point in trying to spin it another way. unless we sit in a playoff spot its not good enough

i dont want them to blow it up. i think we have some good pieces. but if we continue to lose anythings possible, we maybe have 2-3 untouchables MAYBE.

I have a nightmare, that after this nightmare of a season, we'll have a high pick --- but with the lottery land #14th.

Even if we trade up after, I have yet another nightmare that Chevy would skip Jones/MacKinnon/Drouin and go "off the board" again and pick a second-rounder instead....

Ugh this team is going to kill me

Too bad that the draft lottery system will be different this year. Even if the Jets finish last it will be more difficult than other full-season years to land the first overall pick.

that's not how the lottery works from my understanding it would be the same as it is now, except rather then moving up 4 spots max, whoever wins the lottery gets #1 Overall.

and this second rounder stuff is beyond ridiculous...unless thats not meant with reference to previous picking (IE schiefele being a second rounder, which it has been discussed ad nauseum that no, in facts he was a 10-15 pick at last count.)

I don't really expect much from this team or to make the playoffs this year.
I just want them to be competitive.

This heavy schedule/ travel must be burning them out & they are playing with little to no passion or confidence right now.

Eventually the " we are lucky to have our team back " attitude will wear thin with fans.

The next big move may be Claude Noel if he can't right the ship.

I had thought it was a +/- 4 spot lottery system. So yes I'm exaggerating (on both counts; just being frustrated/provocative).

But still thought we could drop spots significantly?

hmm where did you hear that? The last system was one draw, 4 spot increase.
meaning no one would ever drop more then one place.

It was my understanding that the new system was one draw, 1st overall, no matter where you were previously, so that still no one would ever drop more then one place.

If we're going to have a crappy season where we tank and get a high draft pick, I'd much rather it be a shortened season than have to suffer through an entire year of this.

Second season....second season...waiting...waiting...still locked out...waiting OH there it is. No exhibition and almost NO training camp, coaches only get their first look at players after the CBA is ratified then straight into condensed season.
Pretty sure this applies to the other 29 teams in the league, 27 of which have better records.

Tough loss tonight against a very good team in Boston. I really liked the Jets effort against the cream of the crop of the eastern conference, on to the next one.

I don't think he should get an extension on his contract at all. Either fire him before it ends or let him run it out and then evaluate him, absolutely no need to extend him based on what we've seen.

But wait, what about his entertaining press conferences?

I've always liked Noel, but not for his coaching. It's starting to get old. If next year starts out like this yet has, I'd bet Noel is gone.

while i hate the fail for the pick mentality, i agree that i'd rather it be this year than any other year

short season + loads of talent

Yeah, it does...but did they just have team relocate the year before with a shortend training camp as well?
Picking one sentence out of context does not convey the message I was trying to get across.

It is not an excuse for the team, but when you are looking at the circumstances surrounding the Jets and their move here, this cannot be ignored either.

They didn't have a short training camp in year 1... started and finished at the same time as the rest of the league.

I get what you are saying, but Participation ribbons get given out to everyone and mean nothing. Jets are in the same position as the rest of the league with respect to the amount of time they had to prepare this year and last year.

Can't recall who the forward was and can't find highlights up yet, but whoever allowed Boychuk to hold the puck at the blueline, fake a slapper, recoil and get the shot to the net showed horrendous situational awareness. 5 seconds left, force Boychuk to send it to the corner or knock it out of the zone.

I know today most teams have their wingers come back to help out deep in the zone but I have to agree with Don Cherry and question this strategy. Look how many goals we have given up resulting from point shots. Not that I want Cherry to replace Noel but cover the points!!

I didn't think Buff could look any sloppier than he does playing with Enstrom........Nope, I was wong............enter Hainsey.

Buff will get repeatedly exposed until Enstrom his babysitter returns.

Buff hasn't looked the same since he came back, he isn't playing with the same intensity that he had before his ? (injury)

as far as Wright goes I really don't know how anyone could play and have any kind of success with slater and thorburn, both think you can score from behind the oppositions net where they usually are together on the rare occasion they do make it out of their own end:sarcasm:

I'm beginning to think the Jets need to revisit the idea of moving Buff to forward, he can still play the point on the PP
