Thunderbirds 2024 25

One to one Tbirds desperately need their offense to get going. Peca and Alexandrov have disappeared. PP has been abysmal. Make it 3 to 1 after Providence went two or two on the power-play

Good season overall. Outmanned by Providence.

Looking forward to next year, more prospects in the lineup and some new AHL vets added.

Goaltending will be solid again.

Let's Go T-Birds! (next year)

I guess I could give a season end report.
Number one prospect is Colton Ellis. The blues are definitely solid in goal. Nearly every night he was their best player in number one star and they were routinely outshot yet still won the game. What makes him so special as nothing shakes his tree. He’s not flopping all over the place. He’s calm: and collected. It just seems like he’s a brick wall back there most nights.

The number two best prospect is Dvo. He went through a lot of growing pains this year, but seemed to improve as the year went. He has a devastating one timer and a nose around the net. His passing seemed to show more toward the end of the year when he decided to hold onto the puck longer and scan for an opportunity. Early in the year, he did not do that. He’s just an average skater, even at this level, which could move him to the wing in the future. He really needs another year at this level to shine.

My number three prospect is Simon Robertsson. I don’t think there’s a prospect more NHL already the blues have out of the net. If he could’ve stayed healthy, then I think you very well could’ve pressed for a third line job. Just a very smart player. Excellent penalty killer. Good passer. Good shot above average speed. He could press for a spot next year.

My number 4 prospect would be Kaski. He has excellent speed. Clearly the fastest skater on the team. Very good at stealing pucks and breaking up plays in the defensive zone. Another year, I believe he presses for a spot on one of the lower lines for his excellent 200 foot play. He is a good passer, but at times I just don’t think people are thinking on the same level that he is. I don’t know if it’s European hockey or just thinks differently. He does need to get stronger.

My number five prospect is Otto Stenberg. You can see he has the goods and that he is a very smart player. Excellent defensively. Disrupts play very well. Good penalty killer. Also very good on the power-play. I wouldn’t be surprised if he doesn’t have a breakout season in the AHL and be ready Middle of the following season. He does need to get stronger.

My number six prospect is Peterson. The guys just made for the fourth line. Sometimes he surprises you with moves and shots he takes, but it’s his defense that stands out in for checking. Teams just hate playing against him, but you love to have them on your team. He needs to pick his spots better and be more discipline

Are you saying you view Ellis as a better prospect than Dvorsky or just that Ellis was better in the AHL this season…which would definitely be different things. I’d agree Ellis was absolutely the team MVP.

I view Ellis as a future #1 goalie at the NHL level. Best goalie I saw all year in the AHL and there are some good ones. Just my opinion. If Dvo improves a lot, then we have a #2 center. Depends how you value the position.

Fair enough. It’d be fantastic if Ellis can reach that level and I agree with you that he can. Thinking back to Hofer’s play in the AHL not too long ago, which goalie do you think has more potential - Hofer or Ellis?

I think the quality of shots Ellis saw versus Hofer is what sets him apart. Mind you that Z’s save percentage is roughly .16 off his 22-23 campaign. They saw a lot of point blank rubber. The Blues are in an ideal position in goal right now. Long range, I see Ellis taking the job. Not a slight on Hofer, but he can look small in goal. I want Ellis to get his cup of coffee.

I was disappointed when Robertsson got injured. He was cruising when he hit the ice and scored at a respectable rate given this was his first year. Hope he can rebound next year and if he takes a spot on the NHL roster then hell yea. Really impressed with the development of our forwards, but we desperately need a few dmen to start making strides. Our blueline isn’t getting any younger and sooner or later we’ll need to replace Leddy, Faulk, and hopefully further down the road Parayko.

I was going to review some more players. I just haven’t had time to. I figured I’d hit the main ones first.
