Thunderbirds 2024-25

Then again, I don't know who Matt Luff is or where he came from, but he just can't seem to stay off the score sheet. He took over the scoring lead for Springfield and is on a point per game clip. He seems to have a nose for the net. Late bloomer?

Luff is 27, so rreally late if he is blooming. He signed a PTO with Charlotte AHL Team and then signed with the TBirds directly on an AHL contract. He bounced around the league on 3 different teams but never really got a full season, 106 games with 27 points in his NHL career. That should be enough with his size to carve out a bottom 6 role somewhere, but he never played more than 33 games in a season. Maybe his D is bad? 33 games was his rookie year, never more than 23 since. He's always put up points in the AHl, just hasn't played a full season as he bounced between the AHL and NHL.. So he probably just is a good AHL player who cannot make it in the NHL. Like Matt Peca who is also on an AHL-only contract.

He’s this years Gaudette I guess…

He's also shooting over 30% with Ottawa.

When you play 10 minutes a game, and are on pace for 31 goals, you obviously will have a high shooting percentage. He still has 1 less point than our entire 4th line combined despite them getting played a minute and a half more. I'm not saying he would have solved anything for us. But good for him seizing on his opportunities now that he has them after being stuck in the AHL all last year.

Sure, good for him, but it's not like this is a Dakota Joshua situation or something, he was with 4 other NHL teams prior to us. Suppose there is always a chance he's just a very late bloomer, but I doubt it.

I have a hard time seeing an NHL future for MAG and Malmstrom. They have stalled hard. I also think it's a very big Longshot for Mayich.

I can see any of Buchinger, Fischer, Burns, Koromyslov, and Ralph being good bottom 4 Defenseman in the NHL tho.

If the Blues can find a decently young center I'd Move Buchinger. Tho I am probably the one the most on his hype train.
I think Mayich is worth a look. He was the coach’s pick as the best defensive defenseman last year. Rather see what he has than a stiff like Harrington.
