Thread About Nothing (part # who cares)

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

Driving to my son's baseball game yesterday afternoon around 3:45 with my wife. We were the first car stopped at red light needing to make a left. The light has a left turn arrow, but it doesn't come on when the light changes to green. I let out a sarcastic "c'mon man" (something my kids and I jokingly say all the time after an opposing team's baseball coach that used to say that on the field, but anyway) and rather that starting the turn we inch up a bit so that opposing traffic can pass through the intersection first.

A good 2 seconds or so after the light had already changed to green a car from my left completely blows through the intersection at probably 35-40 MPH. Never seen anybody run a red light THAT late before - maybe have seen somebody still passing through the intersection while the light is green, but never seen a green light with a clear intersection and then a car come out of nowhere to fly through. Not sure if the opposing car saw him coming as they have a more open view of traffic coming from that direction than I do because of the angle of the intersection, but fortunately they hesitated in going.

Had we gotten the green arrow I am 100% certain I'm getting T-boned on the driver's side. As my wife pointed out later, that intersection always has a green arrow and I'm fairly certain she's right. It's 202 South in Basking Ridge by the Olde Mill Inn and the on ramp to 287 is right there which is why a lot of cars turn left and there's always a green arrow when the light changes. We've also been going through that intersection for 15 years. And it's not like we rolled up to the intersection right before the light changed either, which could impact things if it's a camera sensor - were sitting there a while at the red light. Rather odd, but got very, very lucky.

NJDevs26 , pardon the off-topic question but I am unable to DM anyone (it gives me a "server error" message each time). Is this just me or is this still an issue with the servers?

Interestingly enough, I notice that when we @ someone, it gives a server error as well.
Tagging didn't work either, I only saw this message randomly clicking in the thread. Short answer is I generally wash my hands of the mess that is the HF board implosion, I have no idea on any that. My DM's seem to work fine though, maybe they've fixed that issue?

To be fair, it's mostly the globals that would have an idea of what to do anyway, it's not like I'm tech savvy a la JK or really have ever dealt with issues like sponsorship, which seems to be a big talking point (I think being a mod actually auto-removes the ads for me tbh).

No, apparently your job is just to oppress us and keep your foot on our throats as an overbearing censor. #freespeech #characterassasination #accusingeachotherofstupidityafterawinorloss

Wow that’s a dramatic change. We loved Paris. I think our family would move there if it was feasible. Unless you try to find a dump you will not have a bad meal there and it is a fascinating city on so many levels.
We’re pretty experienced traveler so it’s not going to be all WTF but it’s gonna be an adjustment for sure. We’re lucky to get a specific visa

Sadly, I feel like much of the boxing greats, especially from that generation don’t live very long.

They don’t die in their 40s or 50s, but most seem to go in their 60s or 70s.

Frazier was like 67. Ali was early 70s. Foreman made it to 76.

These guys are in tremendous shape, but the beatings can’t be too good for physical health and could lead to long term health complications.

Foreman was a beast. That guy was boxing into my adulthood, despite going into a 10 year retirement when I was a year old. And being in retirement for many of his prime years.

Boxing in your late 40s at that time seemed like quite an accomplishment and I always admired him for getting in the ring at that age. I’m glad I got to see some of his fights during the comeback era of his career.

I tried to remake my account after the recent Columbus game (seriously wtf) and only got it done yesterday because of the constant server issues.

So now today the other side of Route 80 was shut down because of sinkholes. This is really catastrophic for west north New Jersey commuters.

This is going to be a mess for a LONG time. I was bored the other day and took a look at the USGS maps of all known mines in the area. That whole section of the state is like swiss cheese. Route 80 goes right over them.

Couple that with the earthquake we had and Kittatinny Arsenal's explosives testing and those mines are going to continue to collapse and cause more sink holes.

I wouldn't recommend buying a house in Wharton

Starting the visa process this weekend for a move to Paris (from North Carolina)

Nervously excited
Congrats!! I keep trying to convince my wife to move to Ireland just for a year. She's an Irish citizen so that would make things a little easier, I think.

So far no luck lol

USPS is a disaster right now. It's not their fault, but what a mess.
so is the IRS. i still haven't gotten my refund check from colorado. my gf is a paralegal for a firm specializing in tax law, and the IRS is a ghost town right now. i'm just glad i cashed out my 401k.

Yeah I just hope things can get fixed after how much damage has already been done in just a couple months. I won't go any further than that lest I get a warning for bordering on too political. Anyway...

I had something mailed to me from Texas to PA a month ago and it still hasn't made it. The travel history is as follows:

El Paso TX
Albuquerque NM
Portland OR
Jersey City NJ
Dallas TX
Philadelphia PA
Dallas TX

Right now it seems they don't even know where it is. The scary thing is I have two more things in the mail. One was at the post office a couple miles from my house last night and is now a couple hours away at a post office toward central PA.
