Thoughts on Kirill Marchenko?

Leads the team in scoring with 14g-26a in 36 games, Marchenko-Monahan-Voronkov have been a handful. He has points in 7 straight with 13 points over those 7 games.

6th most points amongst right wingers and leads the NHL in +- for right wingers at +17 for a team that is -6 for the season.

Even for a Blue Jacket he's underrated.
Came here to say this as he is quietly becoming the peak player many envisioned.

He is 24 and this season should be the start of a 5 or 6 year prime of 30-40 goals/year along with a PPG average.

Some good things beginning to happen in Columbus.

Him and Voronkov are both 24 and having quite a season. I think Voronkov has 9-10pts in his last 5gp. Will it lasts? Who knows.

Voronkov has been absolutely unreal, most people expected him to be a bottom six grinder providing physical play, but he doesn’t really hit much (unless you’re Laine) and he’s got crazy good hands and hockey IQ

Marchenko/Voronkov/Chinakhov are all extremely unique/different players that all deserve an extreme amount of hype, and as a CBJ fan hope they all remain with the team for as long as possible. They really are all awesome players.

This coming from a long time Pavel Bure/Nikolai Zherdev fan who was raised on Detroit Red Wings “Russian 5 hockey”, so as you can imagine I’m fully behind the Russian/CBJ thing going on recently.

Looks like he took a big jump ; I’ll admit I didn’t see ppg coming this early ; especially with the Jackets on paper roster . Both look very underrated at this point

We played the Blue Jackets this week. He was their best player. Always so dangerous. I was which hole did this guy pop out of?

I still remember that Russian WJHC with these players on board. That was the only time they actually looked better than Canada in the finals in a long time. yet, still found a way to loose due to overhyped Askarov.

A couple of years ago when I watched SKA a lot, he always stood out and always ended up on the scoresheet. But he didn't seem overly physical to me and maybe more of a perimeter player, perhaps in the same vein as Gusev. I had doubts he'd translate to the pace and physicality of the NHL. Kuzmenko, who was also on that team, seemed much more likely to make an impact at the NHL level given his style. Kuz's first season really seemed to suggest that, but then he fell off a cliff...

And now it's Marchenko who is the one making a real impact in the NHL. Seems like he makes a lot of smart plays and his shot is, of course, lethal, and hopefully that means he'll have a longer shelf life than Kuzmenko had. I think Marchenko has really found some chemistry there in Columbus, so I hope he keeps it up.

Cool to see Marchenko prove my doubts wrong, but annoying as hell to have him remind me, once again, that you know nothing, Rufus T Firefly...

Playing with Monahan has been huge for him. As has being given enough leniency by the coaching staff to actually make plays. There were glimpses of this player last year, but for whatever reason he ended up in Vincent’s doghouse a couple of times. It’s actually crazy how much whatever system Vincent was running stifled these guys. Even Johnny.

Marchenko, Voronkov, and Chinakov (if he can stay healthy) are all developing into regular 60+ point players, each with a unique trait that is hard for other teams to deal with. Good thing the Jackets have cap space.

He's signed for 3.85M for 2 more years after this as well. Has to be one of the best bargain contracts right now
Now it looks nice but with his next contract in 2027/28 he could quickly become an overpaid winger.

Waddell took a risk by not locking him up for 6-8 years (assuming that was a real possibility), although the plan to have him signed for 3 years max was understandable given Waddell didn't even have a chance to meet the player before contract negotiations and his assessment of Marcenko's value and upside were mostly based on hearsay.
