Thoughts on Chatfield's Takedown Yesterday?

Okay, so you are just arguing intent.

I am arguing he looks to be off balance from spinning in a circle, but that is just my opinion, yours is that he had complete control.
he's the guy who did the spinning so yes, he was already in control of the fight but wasn't landing punches and decided to do what he did, by and large.

Did you miss the part where all game Wilson was shouting he was gonna hurt a Cane and then drilled a guy in the back with a dirty crosscheck because he went after a loose puck on a rebound?

So, your explanation is that the Caps were being babies because they 'didn't try' and the Canes were whooping them and wouldn't stop so they got mad about the other team playing hockey. I have this correct?
No i covered that. It’s right there “Someone is gonna get hurt.” Which is what Wilson said.

Wilson literally called for violence and that's what his team got.
This was a pretty short post, you really couldn't read the whole thing? Fighting is violence and I'm okay with it.

The takedown is something else and not the same. This should be a very easy thing for most hockey fans to come to an agreement on since we don't actually want to see people slap the back of their skull off the ice but for some reason you've got these Tom Wilson blinders on and can't see why this is an extra problem entirely outside of a chippy game with fights in it.

But you're saying that is only in response to the Canes 'playing hockey'. So basically Wilson was like 'stop playing hockey or I'll hurt someone'... and you think that's reasonable?

Clown move. Probably not suspension worthy based on how the league does suspensions, but hopefully someone like Wilson tees off on him next time they meet.

If you're too scared to use your knuckles then don't drop the gloves.

Chatfield is an idiot and should glue his gloves to his hands before every match going forward

Clearing the crease is playing hockey. Scrumming around the net is playing hockey too. If you think that shot hurt in the way you suggest you're honestly insulting the guy who got hit. He got pinballed a little by some guys and then fell down, I bet he's perfectly fine. Calling what happened there a dirty cheap shot or intent to injure is a bit much.

Lol how perfect of the old stodgy hockey fan stereotype to be mad that someone wasn't fighting the right way like a proper gentleman in a hockey game.

Bro dropped the gloves and didn't throw a single punch and you're trying to argue he was fighting fairly lmao. Why even drop gloves at all at that point? Just keep them on lol

What are you going to defend next, kicking?

You can't do that in a fight. If someone starts poking eyes is that fair game?

Physicality only works in the game with rules to follow. Imagine checking with blindside and headshots are fair game because "screw being a gentleman"? There's a reason people don't like this play.

Fighting in the NHL is fine as long as the participants are respectful and don't do dumb things like judo throws.

I'd add, Sportnet writers should look at rosters or at least the picture before putting out headlines:

Funny how often hockey fights are "nearly" gentlemanly, where after the bout they give each other a tap and say 'good fight'
those fights are also the ones where you'll never see what Chatfield did, and if a throw like that happens, often you'll see the thrower try to make sure the others' head doesn't hit the ice, and even sometimes cradling the others' head to make sure it doesn't hit the ice.

35 second mark. You think that’s a heavy hit? That wouldn’t be considered a heavy hit in a non contact league.

I get that you have Wilson Derangement Syndrome, but calling that a heavy hit is laughable.

I did not have the pleasure of viewing the slow motion replay alas, merely live. However any hit at all with what Washington had initiated prior shifts was guaranteed to draw a response. No need to deflect.
