Thoughts on Chatfield's Takedown Yesterday?

I get that it's a fight but I don't like it. I also don't think it deserves a suspension but he does deserve to get his bell rung for a move like that.

I expected way worse with some of the outrage I've seen.

I don’t think it’s that different from a lot of the takedowns we see nowadays, but the league should probably step in and clarify- not cool, very dangerous.

I'm pro-fight in the sport, however, I think that leg sweep/judo toss by Chatfield was kind of bullshit and unnecessarily dangerous.

Could've been ugly if McMichael's head had hit the ice.

Canes fan here and didn't like it. You have to have more awareness considering they are both without helmets. Yes, it's a fight and injury and damage can happen but that's a reckless play. It's definitely a weird one but I wouldn't have an issue with 2 games or something just to set a precedent that this kind of move isn't cool in hockey.

I’m glad someone started a thread on this so I can point out that it was immediately preceded by 3 periods of Tom Wilson openly threatening to injure someone on national TV while taking repeated runs the smallest players on the ice, until he finally came across 5’8” Logan Stankoven… who dropped him to his knees with a right cross.

But yeah, the next guy who deliberately picked a fight with a non-fighter didn’t like being exposed to injury as a result. Concerning. Someone should be doing something about this dangerous behavior.

I’ll give Chatfield the benefit of the doubt the game got out of hand and was very emotionally charged. I don’t think he obviously meant to hurt Mcmicheal but overall wasn’t a good look.

I doubt Chatfield knows Judo or that this was a move he's practiced before hand. So a complete accident that began with McMichael's cross check up high and badgering until Chatfield faced up. Glad McM wasn't hurt; hope he didn't hit his head but to me it looked like he did. We'll see.

He was literally shouting at the opposing bench, directly next to a reporter giving a live account on national television, that he was going to injure certain players before the game was over, and then taking runs at those same players. This was all caught in 4K.

The game got out of hand because the Caps stopped playing hockey and started taking runs. Next thing you know we have a thread about how one of them could have gotten hurt in the fight he provoked. Okay.

Yup, if he slammed his head on the ice and fractured his skull on that play...fighting is done in the NHL. Thats too much like MMA, the leg was swept, 100% dirty, 100% intended, 100% dirty and no place in the game for that. Needs a strong message sent from the NHL on this.

There's takedowns, and then there was that. Swept the leg of McM to make him truly off balance and the long wind up.

Maybe he was trying to teach diving lessons but McM was being stubborn?
