NYI is still carrying three goalies on their roster (Halak 4.5M per x 2, Greiss 1.5M per x 1, Berube 675K per x 1).

If the Jonathan Quick injury is long term, would LA be interested in acquiring Thomas Greiss? I assume LA has no interest in Halak's 4.5M per contract over the next two years and they waived Berube last year, so that's how I determined Greiss could be a fit.

Greiss was in between the pipes last year for NYI's playoff win so he's definitely an upgrade over Zatkoff and Budaj, and only carries a 1.5M per cap hit for the remainder of the season.

(This is all under the assumption that NYI would be willing to move Greiss, which I'm unsure of).

NYI needs a solid back up because Halak has never played more than 59G in his career and Greiss being one of the best backup in the NHL is more than needed in Long Island

While I agree with this logic, NYI is super high on Berube and won't risk exposing him to waivers, yet they keep him in the press box every night.

Something has to give.

They could if they really want to keep Berube. With Halak's WCH performance and NYI's infatuation for Berube, Greiss might be our most expendable goaltender.

I'd ask for a 2nd round pick.

Greiss, Pelech and Dal Colle for Toffoli . . .

I can dream can't I?

Out of the three goalies on the NYI, Greiss is probably the least likely to be traded

Actually, he might be the most likely.

Halak has two years left on his contract and had a fantastic World Cup. When he's healthy, he's been pretty good for us. Great playoff goalie as well.

Berube seems to be the love of the Islanders front office. They are letting other guys go to keep him since they believe in him so much. I think it's a little overblown, but he has the ability to be a pretty good NHL goaltender. He had a few really good games for the Islanders last year.

Greiss, even though he had a great year last year, has one year left on his contract and is not a full time starter. His value is sky high, but he's also a great backup.

It all depends on Halak's health.

Considering Halak can never stay healthy for prolonged periods over a season, Greiss is likely going no where.

What about Neuvirth? He's already in LA and would definitely beat the Flyers on Friday night.

Greiss IMO is too important to move. I'd rather take the chance on passing Berube through waivers. Worst case, we lose him. We still have Halak and Greiss this year, and Sorokin is still the future(starting next year, if I'm right about his KHL contract ending).

We'll still have a couple of decent college goaltenders providing depth this year in Bridge, and we'll still have Soderstrom as a Sorokin backup plan. If we really need to I'd imagine we can get a decent #2 or 3 later in the year for a mid/late pick.

I get that they like Berube, but they are just delaying the inevitable. The two guys ahead of him are too important to this year's success to move, and you can't keep 3 goaltenders around all year long.

Just get it over with.

I agree with you Blinkman. The reason I started the thread is because it doesn't seem like NYI feels the same way. If they are as intent on keeping Berube as they seem, they may as well get value back for Halak or Greiss.

But, preferably waive Berube when we sort out the forwards.

Didn't we claim Berube FROM LA? What would it get us to send him back?

LA should just call up Budaj and then wait for Matt Murray to get healthy to claim Condon on waivers if it is as long term as it sounds.

LA cannot afford to give assets.

That would be preferable. Just wasn't sure if GMDL would see him as a material improvement over Zatkoff/Budaj so I offered Greiss.

Berube for Dergachyov.

Haha. I guess the key word was give. Honestly, we don't have the much of anything you'd want that we can expend. Cupboard is pretty bare. :(

not to damper on your thread, but your not getting much for Berube. maybe a 7th. And Greiss might get a 5th
