Player Discussion Thomas Chabot (D) Part 2

Don't think Chabot will be in our long term plans. Jensen can't be expected to maintain his level of play as he ages. If Chabot bring effective requires Jensen, I'd rather just let Yakemchuk develop into our 2RD and find an LF that compliments him. Maybe Kleven can develop into that or maybe we find a cheaper LD.
I think too much gets made of Jensen being his partner tbh. He just needs a proper NHL dman, whether it’s Jensen or someone else.

That being said I don’t see him being here beyond his contract, and maybe sooner than that. I don’t think he should be moved unless you can get a really solid RD or a swap like Norris for Cozens that you like though. He’s still a very good dman and does way more good than bad for us, I think he’s a tough player to replace right now.

I don't see him here beyond the next trade deadline. Another part of the evaluation of the team. Dude got called out by Martin and told to get it together at end of season. Goose is cooked.

Well he responded, did he not?

I am really not gleaning much from anyone this playoffs if it’s their first time. No one has really stood out and that’s fine. We’ll see who comes back better next year.

Anyway, who knows what Staios is planning on doing. If the return makes sense then I can see him being moved, not sure they’re in a rush to do it though.

He looked like the same Chabot to me, until maybe half way through the last game. Guy has brain farts. And even when he plays good, it's not because he makes less brain farts, if you know what I mean. He can't carry a pair. He can't bail out a partner. He's....high maintenance. When is enough?

I like Chabot, but I knew from day one he's not a guy that is going to elevate his game, he's too skilled and is going to be on cruise control the rest of his career.

Tkachuk with a bad hip playing around 60% has two goals, it would be nice if some of the other guys could maybe help out a bit & we could get a save when we need one.

I don't know what people expect. He had a great season, he can carry the puck out of trouble, and yes he's lackadaisical, he's hesitant when shooting and can be soft defensively. That's par for the course for a second pairing defenseman. His contract is going to increasingly look better (or less bad) as the cap rises. There are much bigger problems on this roster than Chabot.
