Time to move on

Can't move on from a problem that has been PLAGUING this team for years. If you think it's about Brannstrom, it's because you STILL don't get it.

You are, of course, right.

He was and is consistent in his contributions, but he isn't flashy and will always be considered a disappointment due to the Stone fiasco.

His size also works against him, as does the fact he isn't a big point producer. We could use him at the price he is at now, but you are fighting a losing battle on this board.

Yeah the biases are here : size and the Stone trade. But again, it's NOT about Brannstrom.

Remember what was my initial post? We are not getting ES production from our defense (except Chabot who 50% of the fanbase want to get rid of) and Jensen. We don't know how to build hockey teams and the results in the 8th season of the rebuild makes it pretty obvious. For YEARS, every offseason, I have been vocal about what the problems were and it mostly materialized (hard to predict 100% of the problems as there has been too many)

So you're upset about signing Hamonic and the subsequent domino effect.

Sounded at first like you had an argument in favour of Branstrom being on the team but good that we're all on the same page acknowledging that impossibility.

Yeah, you could say that, I am still upset about pretty much everything Dorion has done because it has ruined our experience, it is still ruining it actually and might still do for years (don't forget that 1st round pick we'll have to forfeit too)

We always knew it was impossible to sign Brannstrom but we could still have claimed him on waivers (don't forget they gave Addison a PTO and would have signed him if he was better). I would have gone like this :

Top-4 : Sanderson-Chabot-Zub-Jensen
Rest : Kleven-Brannstrom-JBD-Hamonic

Hamonic would only play when 2 injuries on defense. 43.95 xGF% 5 on 5, by far the worst on the Sens and among the worst in the league. It doesn't make sense that he has played 22 games out of 23. Not only that, he plays almost 17 minutes per night

He’s legitimately the only positive most nights.

He, and Stu, have been the best players this year.

The whole team needs to go, but he’s been bringing the most of everyone with regards to positive play to the team

Chabot has the 12th best xGF% 5 on 5 in the NHL as of now.

People will never accept it lol. We have a serious problem with production from the backend.

Depth is extremely important in the NHL

Let's compare Ottawa and NJ. Remember the Devils were a bit like the Sens in the last few years, "never able to take the next step"

ES TOI/GP :

D (5+6+7) : Hamonic 15:18 + Kleven 14:14 + JBD 13:19
F (8+9+10+11+12) : Amadio 12:16 + Gregor 11:18 + Perron 10:43 + Cousins 9:52 + Ostapchuk 9:38

vs

D (5+6+7) : Hamilton 16:50 + Dillon 15:54 + Nemec 14:15
F (8+9+10+11+12) : Haula 12:04 + Noesen 11:53 + Tatar 9:42 + Bastian 9:37 + Lazar 9:12

Look no further than that. I'm good comparing both teams Top-6 and the Top-4 though

Yeah the Devils added three dmen last summer in Kovacevic, Pesce and Dillon, despite having two top 5 picks in the mix for spots.

We went with JBD and Kleven, and swapped Chychrun for Jensen. Sens are going to be in this cycle forever if they keep giving roles to young guys instead of acquiring good pros.

He now has as many goals himself, after his late tying goal against the Wings (thank you Branny, stole a point from the Wings), as our entire D corps.

Check that, Kleven scored the other night.

Senators D 4
Brannchise 3
Sens fans are hurting real bad if they are pining for Erik Brannstrom

The crazy thing is that we all know he wouldn't have those numbers if we had brought him back.

So what exactly is the problem with this group where any kind of talent and ability is totally stunted?

Why does this keep happening?

It didn't have to be Brannstrom per se, but anybody who could move the puck and play ahead of Kleven, Hamonic and JBD. It just happens that Brannstrom was available on waivers for very little, and that we've seen him enough to know what he can (and cannot) do.

Whereas Fabbro for example, I just haven't seen him enough lately to know whether we should have gone for him when he was available.

Wanting different personnel decisions is fine and normal, but it's still the sum of the parts and isolated it's a nothing burger. A sole move to keep Brannstrom in house isn't changing the current position the Sens are in, but maybe a host of decisions that turned out better would have.

Slotting. This team is perpetually playing their youth in roles they’re not ready for, or addressing line up gaps by hoping someone can internally fill that spot. A lot of wishful thinking.

For years this team’s strategy has basically been to fill holes with draft picks. Norris looked good in his rookie season, oh look we have a 1C. Kleven doing well in Belleville, oh look we have a 5D. They’ve done this with virtually everyone, sometimes it works and most of the time it doesn’t. Then you just live with the growing pains until they get there, if they do, and do it all over again with someone else.

This team being incapable of bringing in any established NHL talent (or getting it wrong when they do) has been a death sentence. Teams that are making the playoffs aren’t breaking in a new rookie defenceman every season.

You'd think Erik f***ing Brannstrom was a part of the Kardashians given how much he is talked about.

Yet, he's not the subject at all. Tell me you're not reading without telling me.

The "subject" is pretty much happening every f***ing game right in front of our eyes. We have been absolutely HORRIBLE at surrounding our young talent with quality support and leadership. And as a result, this rebuild is on the edge of failure.

While some teams add more quality to make their team better, we actually manage to get WORSE support and depth. Of course we're going nowhere fast lol

Brannstrom is just a symptom. We make the wrong decision every. single. time.

Fabbro, I wanted to get him but we don't have the cap space. Elite teams don't have cap space

It is when you make the addition that it makes a gigantic difference. Wrong personnel decision, wrong roster choices, wrong goalie starting, etc. It ADDS UP
