Vlasic is easily the most overpaid right now, because he shouldn't be paid at all, but that Nurse contract will be a huge anchor in the future.

Wait. There is a vote for Shesterkin, but none for Josh Anderson or Brendan Gallagher?
Probably the same dipshit that voted that MacKenzie Weegar in their poll for what player had a bad season not caused by the team struggling

The Darkest Timeline
I’m simply pointing out that when you look at what other guys around the league are getting, Nurse is a 7+ million dollar defenseman. We’ve reached a point where there are bottom pairing dmen making 4-5 per, and pretty much any legit top 4 dman signing a new deal is getting 6+.

Vlasic is basically a bottom pairing dman at this point and makes 7 million. How do you figure Nurse is more overpaid?
You're pointing out other overpaid players to try and make Nurse look better.

In no way is a bottom pairing dman valued at 4-5 per. That's the equivalent of saying "we are at the point where #4 dmen are getting paid 9m/yr" (if you think Nurse is still a #4). Any bottom pairing dman getting paid 4m+ was expected to grow into a top 4 dmen during that contract or was viewed as a top 4 dman when they signed the deal.

Edit: I think it's easy to agree with most posters that the worst overpay for this season is probably Vlasic and the worst (most detrimental) contract is definitely Nurse.

Easily an argument to be made that Edmonton could've won the cup last year if they signed 9m worth of players instead of Nurse last year.

That's silly. Was this off the top of their heads? Or are they assuming 2024 playoffs Nurse is whom you're getting from now on?

Nurse is probably a $5-6M per year D-man in today's NHL. You roll him out to eat a bunch of minutes and the team will be relatively fine with him on the ice. The Oilers, with Nurse and without McDavid on the ice has, for the past several seasons, been a plus team 5v5. They're not dominating teams, but he's not a negative out there for the team. You put him out there and forget about him.

Meanwhile, Vlasic has been unplayable since he got injured in 2018, and he makes $7M per year for two more seasons. He was a healthy scratch on the goddamned 2023/24 San Jose Sharks. Nurse is overpaid by like $4M. Vlasic is overpaid by $7M.

Man, THN is such an awful site. Clickbait and ignorance.
I think the main reason Vlasic isn't higher on the list is because it doesn't have that many years remaining and The Sharks are tanking anyway.

He was really bad in the playoffs and it wasn't really defendable. He has a chance to have a better season though if he stays healthy this year.

Vlasic's contract is fine because the Sharks are trying to lose and he's helping them lose.

Problem contracts are when the team's interests and the players' performances do not align.

Vlasic is one of the key reasons why the Sharks went from contender to bottom feeder - $7 million and an NMC for an immobile, non-physical, poor defensive defenseman with zero offensive capability. Maybe without the boat-anchor that was Vlasic, we can keep some of the offensive depth we had in 2019 (Nyquist? Pavelski wasn't staying and that was the correct decision given the information available at the time) and maybe find a decent goalie.

Of course, the Sharks of that time didn't have the slightest clue how to evaluate goalies and Wilson was past his best-by date, but that's still a lot of money and ice time wasted on garbage.

Vlasic only isn't so bad now because he already helped destroy the team and we've just sat back and eaten three-quarters of this deal. But Vlasic is a key reason why we're trying to lose - because he helped break us up in the first place. Five years ago, that contract should have been reckoned the worst, period.

Between Nurse and Huberdeau, Nurse's is definitely worse when you factor in the negative impact each player's play has on his team.

JH is a 50-60 point getter at worst.... Nurse shouldn't even be in the NHL.

Nurse is going to the end the year -30, -40 and oil fanboys will still be here saying the same thing.

Edmonton should call Vegas for advice on how to get rid of that contract ASAP.

That's hyperbole. Nurse is an NHL defenseman, he's just not as good as his contract suggests he should be.
