Boom, roasted

Sutter:
On several players saying that the energy wasn’t there:
You know, when you give guys that much time off, it’s their responsibility to prepare properly to compete. So we’ve tried to give guys time off so they stay fresh for games, and obviously we have some guys that have to learn how to manage their time better. It cost us a point.

I wonder if NJ would trade us Larsson for Brown and a Doughty bobblehead, that guy looks pretty good to me. Mcbain +++ ?:sarcasm:

I woke up to find, unsurprisingly, that the Devils had bored the Kings into submission.

The Kings and their fans, that is. *yawn*

Hey, thanks to the person who found the link to the on hold music. 3 tries today and I didn't scroll down far enough to see the tiny link.

What?

We got a point against a Scrooge defense. No complaints. I didn't expect to win against NJ, anyway. Extra point was a bonus.

I agree with Sutter re: prep for the game, but I'm sure it's hard to emotionally get up for a cross-country foe whose season is on the line after you've played the likes of Anaheim and Washington and have Chicago and Dallas coming up. No excuse, tonight was awful, but I can see where the general malaise came from. Kings were shooting themselves in the foot all night with bad passes, sloppy plays, and general laziness. And as Kopi says, that doesn't take away from the other team, they just know they can be a LOT better.

1 ES goal against Kinkaid in 2 games.

In OT:
Kopitar
Carter
Toffoli
Brown
Pearson
Lewis
Shore
Versteeg

Who's missing? Yep... Lucic.
Didn't see a shift, and I'm not sure when he got benched. Probably one of the guys who didn't manage their "off ice time" right.

0-2-2 in the last 4 regular season games at home against the Devils, with 5GF. Tonight was the norm lately. The only guys to score have been Williams(2), Kopitar, Brown, and Gaborik.

I'd say Brown, Gaborik, and Williams had about an equal chance at scoring a goal that game. :naughty:

Well ****.... trying to remain positive didn't last long.

Once again Jennie Zelasko was running presser. I don't think anyone else got a question in.

He usually doesn't get any shifts in OT. Maaaybe one if he's played well.

The 15 games since Boston:

Kopitar, 8-4-12
Doughty, 2-9-11
Carter. 4-6-10
Lucic, 3-7-10
Pearson, 6-3-9
Martinez, 1-8-9
Toffoli, 1-5-6
Muzzin, 2-3-5
Lecavalier, 2-2-4
King, 2-2-4
Brown, 0-2-2
Scuderi, 0-2-2
Gaborik, 1-0-1
Clifford, 1-0-1
Schenn, 1-0-1
McNabb, 0-1-1
Lewis, 0-1-1
Nolan, 0-1-1
Shore, 0-1-1

An 8-5-2 record. 5-5 in regulation, 3-2 in OT.

481 shots on net, 391 shots against, and 34GF, 33GA. So +90 in shots on net, and a +1 goal differential. That's the Kings for ya.

31GF and 31GA in regulation. Take out EN goals, and it's 30GF and 29GA. They're keeping the puck out of the net, on both ends.

Didn't the Devils look into what happens to other teams when your defensive structure is centered on shot blocking? Good for them for making it work so far, but that wears down players a lot more.

And Brown continues to be frustrating. Versteeg is getting a little better, but not fitting still.

I liked Lewis on the boards last night.

But if you can't score on the PP after 5 tries....you just suck and deserve to lose.

Waive Brown...wave goodbye after this season....

My brother who isn't a hockey fan happened to be over, so I put the game on in the background, and thought maybe I could convert him.

"I really don't get what you see in this sport," he said.

Just an ugly, ugly game.

And that is the tough thing about the NHL, there are just so many awful games throughout the season. There are plenty of amazing moments, but a lot of games like that one make it hard to attract new fans.

The defensive systems are to good, the goalie equipment is to big, the players are much bigger now but the rinks are the same size and there wasn't enough talent to match the expansion we have seen in the past generation. There are to many Kyle Clifford's and Nate Thompson's and not enough Jeff Carter's and Corey Perry's.

I will always love the game, but we are getting back into the dead puck style of hockey that truly was an eyesore. I just don't know how they fix it other than perhaps increasing the size of the goals.

I think the MLB and NBA have a similar percentage of unentertaining games played through out the season as the NHL does.

I also think the skill level of NHL players is as high as its ever been.
