Will the fans support a rebuild
I think the majority of us already are. Trading Jake for futures, taking on bad contracts in Hayes and Glass for picks. We're not that delusional that we don't know that means not contending anymore.

The Peinguins should trade Crosby, Malkin, Karlson, Letang, Jarry ,Rust,Rakell,Bunting and rebuilt. They could receive Many first round picks and good prospects.

Crosby is the captain and deserves the right to go down with the ship if he chooses to do so.

Best thing would be to ask (not force) him if he'd be okay with a trade, and go from there.

If he says yes, you ask him where to. If he says no, then you try to win until he retires.

I think Crosby has already made it pretty clear that he wants to be a Penguin for life.

We should have a standard "Pittsburgh are so old that ______" thread instead.

I'll start: Pittsburgh are so old their fanbase is now excited over players named McGruggerty and Blomqvist.

I think you are exaggerating the response because I assume you are a Kyle Dubas hater / Toronto fan based on the username.

Penguins fans were largely incredibly whatever about his summer with the majority opinion being happy they were “rebuilding” finally.
Yea right.
They missed the play offs by a point.
So that summer they acquire a bunch of 30 year olds including Karlsson the Norris trophy winner. Rielly Smirh, Kars Eller, Graves, Accaria. To make the pjay offs.....that was not a GM in rebuild.
And btw ......who the f#@& adds the current Norris trophy winning Dman and does not improve their team one iota?
Answer - Mike Sullivan

Dubas wants/needs high draft picks. The current roster should accomplish that goal.
This roster will acquire a high draft pick every year for years to come.
But will still draft after the likes of the Habs, Sabres, Ducks, Sharks, and Hawks. Throw the Sens and Caps in their too.

You kind of have to feel for Crosby and Malkin. It seems they're working hard and doing whatever they can to carry their team. The team simply isn't very good. Geno and Sid can carry the Penguins to wins over teams like MTL and BUF, but when the Pens go against better teams, they can't stand toe-to-toe.

Crosby and Malkin both need good solid wingers to do the heavy lifting for them at this point in their careers.

Pens don't really have those types of players at the moment and it won't get easier for Crosby at 37 and Malkin at 38 as they get older.

Yea. They have been dragging dead weight on the wings for some time.

Sid and Geno will carry them to wins against bad teams but anytime they face a competent one they’re cooked.

Sully talks the talk so it will be this way until he’s gone. He refuses to play younger players and/or adjust the system to align more with the personnel they have.

Crosby wants to be a "one team guy" because it looks cooler for legacy or whatever, but also doesn't want the team to just totally suck and waste his last years of pro hockey, so it kind of is what it is. He and Malkin kind of get in the way of what the Pens need to do which is go full teardown/tank and try to position themselves for Hagens, McKenna, DuPont, whomever.

HFBoards when a team with a core of 35+ players and no young players isn't very good

I think having a GM who isn't qualified to work in hockey ops is scary for a rebuild though. Replace Dubas with an actual GM and a rebuild looks a lot better.
Sullivan's going to be the bigger detriment to any rebuild than Dubas or whoever the GM is.

I don't understand why people outside of Pittsburgh don't realize this. The Pens have been a train wreck for multiple years now, despite having 3 different GMs with 3 different ways to build a club. The only constant has been the guy who draws up the game-to-game schemes on how he wants the team to play and what types of players he will play/not play.
