When is the last time you've seen a package that valuable get traded? Karlsson, Stone, Hall all recently traded star players and they didn't get anything close to that in return. Barrie alone would return a 1st plus decent prospect at the deadline if he was available.
If the leafs offered that package up, they should be getting an all star level #1D with a lot of term back in return. And no, not somebody like Manson. That package returns a much, much better player than that.

LA kings, quite easily among others.
They get Sandin + Kap then flip Barrie to Edmonton for Gagner (Dump) + 1st + good prospect
pretty sure habs would easily do it for weber. sharks would move eithe rone of burhns/karlsson, zona probably would move OEL for that haul
have you not seen Sandin play this year? he is probably the best D prospect not named Byram (2-4 pretty close with him, romanov and boqvist)
+ Barrie at 2.75 AND Kapanen locked up to a sweetheart 3.2 deal. thats a HUGE package

Those guys were all UFAs you wouldn’t get anyone that good for that package.
I'm not saying any team would bite on it because nobody's looking to trade an all star D if they have one. But on the other hand you never, ever see packages as valuable as the one listed here traded. We sees star players (d-men included) traded for much less than this package. So it's all a moot point really because nobody is trading a package that valuable for any player that would realistically be available. The type of player that package is worth would not be on the market to begin with.
Stone was traded with the knowledge he would re-up immediately. They weren't getting Brannstrom in return if he didn't.

I’m not sure how trading the defenseman with two more years on his ELC helps them cap wise.
And a franchise worthy defenseman isn’t going the other way without including him just to start the discussion
It's very easy for people to say what that package doesn't get in a trade, but let's see someone find an example the last time a package this valuable was traded for a single player. We don't have comparables to use for star d-men being traded because we don't have comparables for packages this valuable being traded.
Agreed. You want a player like that you gotta pay up and sacrifice a top prospect++. This package is doing just that though.

That’s not the point, he was still a UFA and Ottawa wouldn’t have traded him if he was still under contract.
Maybe nobody because if you have a player on your team good enough to return a package like that, you've got zero interest in trading him to begin with. It's tough to find star players in this league so when you get them you should hang on to them.
There will never be an agreement on a trade this big on these forums. The best people will be willing to offer up on the forums is a guy like Manson or Dumba, but obviously that's nowhere near enough.

Sandin being ED exempt helps. Sandin is not projectedas atop 2 Dman.
You can get a strong 2nd pair Dman
So show me an example of a package this valuable being traded then? I've given comparables, not perfect, but still comparables. I doubt you'll find any comparables in the other direction any time recently.
We know Barrie's worth because there's plenty of comparables (Shattenkirk, Yandle, etc.). He would return a 1st plus a decent prospect at the very minimum. Sandin is a top 10 prospect in the entire league; Button had him 6th. So he's obviously worth a 1st+ at a minimum. Kappy is a young, 20 goal scorer on a great contract capable of killing penalties. Many teams would give up a 1st+ for him without a doubt.
Add that all up and that's the biggest package you would see in a trade in quite some time. So it should be obvious why anything other than a star wouldn't move the needle here. People throwing out things like a good 2nd pairing d-man for that is delusional.

Obviously. I just don’t know who would be willing to move a franchise D. I would move Fowler for that package. But obviously we gotta add. And Lindholm should be last resort of being traded. I just don’t know who would be willing to do it

Sandin and kapanen are big and valuable pieces. But just because Toronto overpaid for Barrie doesnt mean another team will offer a 1st+ decent prospect for one dimensional UFA barrie.
