Raises the question of what you want to see in the Edmonton series starting tomorrow. Do you want to see Toronto play a tour de force shut down game to build on defensive momentum, or win an 8-7 track meet vs McDavid and Draisatl?

Solid D is what I'd like to see, no question.

I have been pretty pleased with Simmonds. I view this as a good signing.

No he won't be perfect but I like his presence on the ice, and he looks healthy.

So far so good, I like him and his attitude a lot!

Too early to comment. Leafs have always come out of the gate strong. At least give it 20 odd games to form some kind of constructive opinion.

Never too early to plan the parade IMO.

JK, it's fine to note positive developments so can't blame people for being pleased but it is still very early. Winning games in the first week of the season is one thing, winning games in the playoffs however is something else altogether and until we do that it's probably wise to not get overly confident.

Previous years I feel like even if we won 8 out of 10 games, we probably still gave up 35+ shots in a couple of those, but got by on hot goaltending or hot scoring.

Back to back solid games where we outshot the opposition by 10+, and where we finished our checks, played aggressively, and weren't pushed around ourselves isn't something I recall seeing much of.

It's a very small sample size, but this is definitely the way many of us have been hoping to see them play like for years. They need the killer instinct mentality to keep it up consistently though, and not start coasting.

On paper, I think we're by far the best team in the division, but also historically quite inconsistent.

Last years start got their coach fired.

I can see the team working together better than in the past. I think the roster is in the top 5 now for overall age so there is a lot of maturity.
And you have to love watching Jumbo push Matthews into the backcheck with a stick to the pants...seen it at least 3 times LOL.

Shut down!! Try and play a clean game and hope we don't put Edmonton on the PP. Bogosian cannot dress tomorrow or you HAVE TO keep him away from the McDavid line.

Which one lefts you win in the post season?

Pleased with last two games. Very happy with showing against Jets even though they were missing players.

Keep same attitude against every team and go for the jugular.

Good start so far IMO (3-1-0), though still can't make assumptions where we end up in the division until after we play all the teams several times.

From what I've seen so far they look to be improving each game, the new guys getting to know each other and seem to be adjusting well.

Knowing this team, we will likely see both.

A track meet or otherwise, my comment was to suggest that this team is more inclined to support each other than teams we've seen in the past.
We're not yet 'there', but I believe we're heading in the right direction.
The fly by's are fewer and further between. A good thing.

We're generating more offense from sustained zone pressure than simply off the rush with speed and that's been nice to see.
Need more finish on those offensive chances, but overall pleased.

Yeah, I know a few Jets fans who keep pointing the fact they were missing players, but the long and short of my thoughts are this.

The only reason that game was close was Hellebuyck, and they had ample offense to put up a fight against us with or without Laine. Missing Poolman and DeMelo on the back end doesn't help them for sure, but those guys wouldn't have substantially changed the tide of that game in a way that likely brings Winnipeg out on top.

I'm just thinking in terms of speed. If McDavid gets a step on him might be trouble
The chances of Keefe allowing Bogosian to be on the ice when McDavid is are slim to none. Rielly and Brodie will take that line, Muzzin-Holl will take LD's line.

As for the forward lines, I'd let Tavares-Nylander handle LD's line while Matthews-Marner handle McDavid's.

They definitely have a different feel to them this year. The bottom 6 also has more of a coherent identity which is nice. I liked Kapi and Mango but they were just worst versions of the top 6 wingers. The third line now can and will score every now and again, but if they aren't, they still have an evident purpose.

We look good, but playoff success or nothing. Just as it's been since the start of 2017-18.

I want to see a win, don't really give a f*** how it happens
