Rumor: Things Not Left Unsaid - Flyers Rumors And Media Mentions 4: Say, Say, Say What You Want But Don’t Play Games With My Attention

The fact the propaganda wing is revving up the apology engines in advance is not giving me a lot of confidence in the deadline.

2 seperate articles from 2 seperate corporate stooges pre-apologizing for the same thing posted less than 20 minutes apart? This edict came straight from the front office, I have no doubt.
100%.. in fact the articles were prolly prewritten and handed out

They’re not a winning team & haven’t been for a long time now. I think that’s more so the issue of not attracting players from outside the organization. I’m not saying other things don’t matter but I think the thing that matters most to higher end players who come available they’re often looking for teams with proven track record to give them a legit chance to win.

I’m sure the weather & tax benefits help(ed) but nobody really was singing that tune when the two teams in Florida sucked which they have for stretches during the salary cap era.

To build from outside, people want to come here. To make that happen, you need to build internally (both staff and roster) to become good enough to warrant coming here.

that sounds about right.

That's a bit misquoted, this is the full quote:

I've heard Laughton's told the Flyers he doesn't want to leave, he'd prefer to stay, and I do think the Flyers would like to do right on him in the sense that "Where would you be interested in if we did send you somewhere? Is there a preference if this team answers our call?" You can't always do it, they'd like to do it, but I think he knows. I think he's been prepared for this, it's pretty obvious. And he's liked. You know, there's no question about that.

I do love the dichotomy of "Risto is so valuable to this team how could we replace him?" and "The Flyers would have to retain salary to trade him because he's incredibly overpaid for what he brings" both being true at the same time.
I don't even thing he's overpaid. If he is it's by 0.25-0.5m. The FO is right to refuse to retain salary.

They traded Gagne and Giroux ffs. Much more significant players to the franchise
Hell, they traded class guy and future hall of famer Darryl Sittler right before the start of the 84-85 season and he had just been named team captain.

Scott Laughton isn’t fit to tie Sittler’s skates. Nor those of Brad McCrimmon, Brian Propp, Dave Poulin, Simon Gagne, Rod Brind’amour and of course Giroux. Trade him to whichever team will pay the most, f*** Scott Laughton and f*** their dipshit culture too!

This should be simple, you move laughton, move risto, move dlo, create roster spots, create salary cap flexibility, you bring up andrea, bring up lycksell, and bring up abols (seems they like him) send down kolosov whether he throws a hissy fit or not, doesnt matter, run with what we have, get a good draft pick, and go from there, they're constantly shooting themselves in the foot by being afraid to do anything or needing to do right by a player, and its not like they just came off of a dynasty, they've been shit since 2013

The issue specifically that Charlie was laying out for this upcoming deadline is that there aren’t a whole of teams that are in playoff contention that have the cap space to take on his full contract right now.

But he also made it seem just in general he’s not sure even past this deadline if the Flyers can get a first rounder & clear the contract which is the Flyers goal. He seemed to imply he thinks only one or the other & not both.

Luckily they'll be easier to move at the draft. So on and so forth.
